Is that the official line, now? I don't want power. I just object to idiots having power over me.
Book?
Who said that?
In answer to which "idiot"?

Bonus:
Shortly afterwards, what rather drastic measure did the quoted person take to insure the "idiot" would not have power on anyone?

Only have 3 of the later Vor books  , and every now and then there's a quite that niggles at me - I've read that I think.

Next mission in life...
1. get rest of Vor collection
2. read & reread (never a chore with LMB)
3. overtake voralfred in sherlock game

Oh, come on?
The "bonus" was meant to make the quesion easier!
Well, looks like RK has to answer this one.
Giving the line before this quote would make the answer completely obvious...
If no answer soon, I'll post it with a few holes, but even so....

XXX will never gain power on YYY1 by scheming to give ZZZ YYY2. That, I guarantee.

Is that the official line, now? I don't want power. I just object to idiots having power over me.
So now the question is
- Book?
- Who is the first "idiot" speaker?
- Which characters are XXX (the second speaker) and ZZZ?
- What political entity is YYY (neither exact formulation YYY1 nor YYY2 are needed)?

Bonus is now
As previously, how does XXX guarantee that the "idiot" does not get power?
But in addition give exact form of XXX, YYY1, ZZZ and YYY2 as they appear in the quote.

I'm very surprised. When I asked the question last week I was sure there would be an answer soon.
Now I'll have to go away and I'll be off for a whole week.
So I think the best is to give tha answers here in a spoiler and trust you not to cheat....

I'll regularize the Sherlocks next week.

Spoiler: show
Main question:
Book is Barrayar
Vordarian, Cordelia, Miles
Barrayar

Bonus
She has him decapitated by Bothari
Here is the full first line of the quote

An outworlder frill will never gain power on Barrayar by scheming to give a mutant the Imperium. That, I guarantee.

Finally, I found it: page 549 on the Cordelia's Honor paperback:

- Book? Barrayar/ Cordelia's Honor
- Who is the first "idiot" speaker? Commodore Vidal Vordarian (or the Emperor, depening on how you look at it)
- Which characters are XXX (the second speaker) and ZZZ? An outworlder frill (Cordelia), a mutant (Miles)
- What political entity is YYY (neither exact formulation YYY1 nor YYY2 are needed)? Barrayar

Bonus is now
As previously, how does XXX guarantee that the "idiot" does not get power? : Cordelia orders Bothari to cut off Vordarian's head.

But in addition give exact form of XXX, YYY1, ZZZ and YYY2 as they appear in the quote. : An outworlder frill will never gain power on Barrayar by scheming to give a mutant the Imperium.

X's little faux pas wasn't irredeemable, according to Y, whom I take to be a shrewder judge of women than we are.
Who is X?
Who is Y?
Who are "we"?
Bonus: why is Y a better judge of women?

Barrayar
Xxx is Emperor Ezar on his deathbed.
The "ruthless" theist is Cordelia.

Ezar is a bit ironic here....

Oooops! Wrong!
Ezar is already dead at the beginning of Barrrayar, so I backtracked: the dialogue is at the end of Shards.

EDIT:

Hmmm..crossed posts!

It is in Shards, RK, not Barrayar!

"'Most men'," xxx1 quoted, "'are of naught more use in their lives but as machines for turning food into sh*t.'"
YYY cocked an eyebrow at xxx2. "Who said that? ZZZ1?"
"WWW," XXX3 returned primly. But was compelled to add, "ZZZ2 quoted it to me, though."

Book?
What characters are XXX, YYY, ZZZ? (xxx1 is just a pronoun he/she/it and xxx2 him/her/it and ZZZ1 and ZZZ2 are almost but not quite the same formulation)

So the bonus is : who is WWW?
Hint: WWW does not belong to the Saga at all, just as Shakespeare who is quoted several times, this is a reference to "Old Earth".
So to make the bonus a bit more difficult: find at least one other quote of a real "Old Earth" person in the Saga (Shakespeare I know is quoted, if you find anyone else, fine, just give the exact reference so I can check! Note that the name of Shakespeare does not necessarily appear, it is just a line, or even a simple phrase, by him, that is so well-known, supposedly, that LMB expects her readers to recognize the quote. I have two such instances that came to my mind right now but I am sure there are many more.. plus twothree not by Shakespeare)
I just remembered a third non-Shakespeare Old Earth quote in the Saga. I wanted to bar the "two" the way I saw a few edits where the old version was barred, but I don't see how to do it, so I "shrunk" irt instead. Help please?

Excellent. You get the bonus.

I did not even remember the quote (though I am sure I noticed it when I read it), but it is definitely an allusion to "Old Earth'. It was originally said in French « Tuez-les tous, Dieu reconnaîtra les siens. » (if said at all, historians are debating about it, but, well, it is said Aranud Amaury said it; see wikipedia in French;in the english version of wikipedia says
"At the siege of Béziers in 1209, he reportedly said "Kill them all, God will know his own!"" emphasis mine)

I noticed quote because I didn't recognize and I'm curious :-). I read about contradicts did that Arnaud Amaury say or not :-). But, as nobody presents other person, I take Arnaud :-).
Also, he might say that in Latin: "Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius."

"It'll be a nice change to do my laps with someone who's not so much older, um, that is, so much shorter than me."
Book?
Who said that?
Who is "someone not much older/shorter"?
Who is that one older and shorter?

"At least this should be simpler than our late vacation on XXX," he/she/it said hopefully. "A purely military operation, no relatives, no politics, no high finance. Straight-up good guys and bad guys."
"Great," said YYY. "Which are we?"
Book?
What place is XXX?
Who is he/she/it?
Who is YYY?

Bonus: answer YYY's question
.
Spoiler: show
No, no, this is a joke, no bonus this time
Edit: seriously now, I decided I could add a bonus question:

LMB does not describe the operation, but alludes to it in two more different boooks. Just naming these books is not enough, you have to give some context; how much context is for me to decide.
