This is really terrible, SHG, but if this could be a consolation, if your friend died 4 days after his first chemo, chances are that tests just a month and a half ago would not have changed much to his life expectancy. Two years ago, even last year, maybe, but one month and a half? He was certainly already beyond any hope of a cure, even a respite of more than just a few more weeks, at most.
You're probably right voralfred, it's just the fact that he was refused tests because of no insurance is what really p***ed me off. It's still hard to beleve he's gone.
Today I learned my daughter needs money, by friday no less, for volleyball t-shirt and polka-dot socks, do they really need polka-dot socks for cryin out loud?! LOL

Old pair of socks + Sharpie = polka-dot socks
(and a daughter who probably thinks it's not very funny)

Um...yeah...she probably wouldn't find the humor in that, I think it's funny though! (and cheap!!!)
Today I learned that there's a lot of planning to a 100th year celebration!!!

You don't look a day over 90.
(and I figured so on the socks -- my kids wouldn't appreciate it either -- but, then, I'd probably ruin the socks and do it -- just to see their faces)

A good quote ... life in general is "both horrible, and extremely amusing, at the same time". That is, in essence, the zen sentiment of the ubiquitous laughing buddha statues that grace many homes throughout the far east.
Today I learned moonwolf is a very responsible girl.. but don't feel bad for what you did. You did right. Sentiments cannot be forced. Better tell him now, early, than let it linger, allow him to imagine things and break his heart much worse later. You're a good kid.
And you indeed share your first name with my daughter, so you cannot be that bad

I agree whole-heartedly with voralfred .. you're more kind to get it over quickly.

Me too, agree I mean, letting it linger up in the air would be the worse thing you could do. Just like a band-aid, do it quickly and it hurts much less. You show very good judgement, better than I did at your age!

I learned that when the IT guys stress to back up your data and all your files you should listen to them. My hard drive on my laptop failed last week. Today I got my laptop back with the new hard drive, however they were not able to recover all of my data and files that I really need. I screwed myself big time. I should have taken the external drive out of its box and used it.
Even IT guys forget how valuable a second copy of everything is. Most of us just aren't anal enough to backup consistently -- and we pay for it in the end.
I mourn with you.

Today I learned it takes a whole hour for 3 kids to be seen in the dentists office, and that when faced with being late to open the library I can shower and get ready in less than 20 min. I'm extreamly proud of myself!!!!

An hour for three kids? .. I've learned my dentist is either *really* slow .. or sweetharleygirl's is a speed-demon.

Today I learned how to access 19th century vital records (birth, marriage, death) from the Netherlands. This is thanks to a correspondant on the talk board run by my software company. My search turned up my great grandmother and two of her sisters — and the excellent thing is I didn't need to know Dutch to find them. The search engine was in English, and the names and dates were clear enough to identify the records (on the tentative basis that genealogical searcher need to keep in mind).
This also makes my day happy — but I won't post it twice.

What search engine was this? Is it only for Dutch records?
