Thank you for the speedy set-up, Aunflin!

Just posted my first entry. Excerpt from something I'm tinkering with at the moment...

Kilt: it's a little hard-edged, and I'm aware you want to keep this thread PG-13, so let me know if I should tone it down...

I'm looking forward to the game!

You're welcome. :)

Now, let me see if I can come up with a suitable continuation.

I like the idea of a total score and a subtraction if you break the Rule of not switching genre. It'll help keep the game going as it should: consistantly inconsistant. :P

I liked it, but that’s not important –

What a minute :slap: , I’m the Judge :smash: , it’s damn well important if I liked it.

Scoring Rules:

1] Post count [This is more for keeping an easy eye on active participants]
2] Originality [has this material been used before on this thread]
3] Humor [Can this post be considered truly funny]
4] Continuity [Did this post successfully close on the preceding post]
5] Rule Breakers [should be obvious... ]

Current: Aunflin – Post +1 (obvious), Originality +1 (new genre) Humor +1 (some dry humor), Continuity +1 (smooth transition) Rule Breaker –0 (did not break any rules) TOTAL: 4

Overall Scoring

Aunflin P: 1 O: 1 H: 1 C: 1 RB: -0 TOTAL: 4
felonius P: 1 O: 1 H: 0 C: 0 RB: -0 TOTAL: 2

Thanks, Judge. 8)

Wasn't sure where to go with that one. Did my best, but following the first rule is so hard :x  But it's a good rule to follow. Otherwise, I'd swiftly fly off into the depths of la-la land--aka: bizarre stream-of-consciousness fantasy

Hopefully, we can now have a nice little ride--to where, I don't know.

/me hopes the scoring system brings in "stats-whores" by the bucketful... [/i]

Good job felonius.

I put the rules in this thread so when someone breaks one I will be able to reference it easier.

Come on folks, I know there are more writers out there.

CARDNIAL RULES:

1. GENRE HOPPING: Just to make things interesting, each new post must switch to a different genre style (i.e, Sci Fi, Horror, Gumshoe Mystery, Romance, Fantasy, Juvenile, Comedy, Anime/Cartoon, Superheroes, etc.). You must announce that genre at the top of your post, before actually beginning.

2. CONTINUITY: A given post must end abruptly, in mid-story, with an elipsis (...) and the next person to post MUST pick up immediately where the previous post left off, using their new genre style - after that, all bets are off. You can steer the story wherever you wish, being as conservative, or as crazy as you desire.

3. TURNS: Participants are not allowed to respond to their own posts - after you post, you must wait for at least 1 other person to post before posting again. To avoid crossing posts, we'll use a 'token key' system - if the thread appears open, and waiting for a response, post "OK, MY TURN" ... after that, you have up to ONE HOUR to make your post. If more than one hour goes by, it's thrown open to all comers who wish to declare it's THEIR turn. However, if nobody else has claimed the turn by the time your delayed post is ready, then go ahead and post it.
n.b. - once you have grabbed your turn - for your post simply "edit" your turn lock. Dropped tokens will at some stage be edited out...

4. EFFORT: Dont trivialize - put a little effort into making your post interesting & entertaining, otherwise there's no point in playing. Be as funny, or as serious as you like. The whole point is to have a little mutual fun bouncing around a constantly evolving plot - like a crowd with a beach ball.

5. LENGTH: There is no minimum or maximum length for any given post - provided you can write it in less than 1 hour.

6. RATING: The forum is essentially PG13 - we will exercise some lattitude in this area - but if you wish to cross the line you do so at the risk of censorship!

Current: felonius – Post +1 (obvious), Originality +1 (new genre) Humor +1 (washing hands/apple cobbler), Continuity +1 (smooth transition) Rule Breaker –0 (did not break any rules) TOTAL: 4

Overall Scoring

felonius P: 2 O: 2 H: 1 C: 1 RB: -0 TOTAL: 6
Aunflin P: 1 O: 1 H: 1 C: 1 RB: -0 TOTAL: 4

Yeah, come on people. :help: Let's see what kind of disjointed, rambling, incoherant, confusing, atypical (and etc, etc...) mishmash of a tale we can come up with.

This is fun. :)

The current cumulative-type scoring system seems to reward regular whorage rather than individual post quality, but hey - whatever makes it fun for people.

I'll participate as freetime permits. I just have to be careful to ration my participation, as such threads can be highly addictive, once joined.

Good one Kahrey,

I can put my rope back.

Overall Scoring

felonius P: 3 O: 3 H: 2 C: 2 RB: -0 TOTAL: 10
Aunflin P: 2 O: 2 H: 2 C: 2 RB: -0 TOTAL: 8
Kahrey P: 1 O: 1 H: 0 C: 1 RB:-0 TOTAL: 3

As far as changing the scoring criteria, I think we're ok. We want a lot of good posts and I think you get the behavior you reward. If you start putting up a bad posts, the negative rule breaker points for “Effortâ€

 :worship: <-- bowing to popular consensus on the cumulative scoring issue :P

Ok, what about humor ?

By having points for humor, you sorta force anyone who pays attention to the scoring to always be tongue in cheek ... which puts anyone who wishes to make the occasional serious post at a disadvantage.

I'd be inclined to at least ditch that one requirement.

Ok, I made a post that was mostly surreal. I included the obligatory humor, but I deliberately tainted it with medical lingo - as a polite form of protest. :deviate:

Say, do I get a bonus continuity point for stitching together ALL of the prior posts, rather than just mine to the previous one ?

Very good Brad,

I never watched much TV, but I have heard people talk about Twin Peaks.

Current: Brad_H – Post +1 (obvious), Originality +1 (new genre) Humor +1 (some humor), Continuity +1 (smooth transition) Rule Breaker –0 (did not break any rules) TOTAL: 4

Overall Scoring

felonius P: 3 O: 3 H: 2 C: 2 RB: -0 TOTAL: 10
Aunflin P: 2 O: 2 H: 2 C: 2 RB: -0 TOTAL: 8
Brad_H P: 1 O: 1 H: 1 C: 1 RB: -0 TOTAL: 4
Kahrey P: 1 O: 1 H: 0 C: 1 RB:-0 TOTAL: 3

I going to contradict my last post  and propose changing Humor to Entertaining. This is still very subjective :? , but then posts with drama, horror, etc… genre would not be punished. I would only have to review scoring on the two posts that were not judged humorous (felonius I and Kahrey).

Let me know what you think about that and a Bonus point category.

I'm good with "entertaining" ... that's a fair compromise, and it's sufficiently vague to accomodate most genres. :thumb:

As for the bonus point ... might be best to omit that. I was only joking when I wryly suggested it. I'd hate to see someone be disappointed at not earning one after working hard on a post.

I'm also good with "Entertaining"

I'm also partial to the concept of "Bonus" - these points to be awarded at the sole discretion of the current Judge Roy Bean. [Which of course is most likely to be Ghost...] To be awarded for anything at all deemed worthy of a bonus point, but here's an example that might be worth it.

WITHOUT breaking any of the other rules, and also without making it seem forced - providing the correct answer to a Sherlock asked in some other thread [Even the Quote Game threads...] A case where Ghost might consider it right to award a bonus or summat quite liken to it...

Quite suspenseful, I know I felt my cheek for blood.
