I LOVED this book. I found that it did not seem to fall into the trap that the other Clancy novel I have read did - and that is being too technical and dry. The other one I read was Executive Orders.

The book moved at a very fast pace, although I found the early portion of the plot a tad far-fetched. It would give too much away to say why - even with a spoiler, so I'll just say that there were a little too many coincidences setting up a fairly important part of the plot-line. The pace of the story overall helped to move past this quickly, and Clancy did not fall into the trap a second time.

We read in this book about some deep motives by our hero, and although we may not like the decisions he chooses to make we end up firmly in his corner.

I highly reccommend this book to anyone who regularly makes it through 700+ pages of fast-paced action. 1 word of warning, there are graphic descriptions of violence & sex, both quite necessary to the plot, but you wouldn't want to have your SUnday School teacher catch you reading it. ;)

The wonderful thing about not planning
Is that failure comes as a complete surprise
And is not preceded by a period of worry or depression

I must say this is only the second Clancy book I was able to finish reading--the first being Patriot Games. I must say I like details, but when the details get in the way of the story, there's a bit of a problem...

But whatever the case, this is a pretty good read! :thumb:

This is actually my least favorite Clancy book (I've read everything up to Rainbow Six). I think I like the overly technical ones that you don't like. I found it too sentimental for his writing style and fan base.

This is one of my favorite Clancy books, I agree with Kilt on some of the coincidents in the beginning. I like Hunt For The Red October the best.
