Poldark 3

Post by Berry »

:D Hi, I am new to the Poldark Universe. For my Mothers birthday I bought her Poldark 1 and 2 on VHS. We are now watching it for I am currently unemployed. We are on tape 3 of the second series. I just found out about Poldark 3.
My question is was it a series or just a telemovie? And is it available for the US?
I've read a few things about it and agree that as all Poldark fans it would have been nice to see both leads play thier parts again but I would still enjoy seeing this third installment if it is any good.

If you have any information I would greatly appreciate an answer.

All I can say is when I saw it on UK TV I fell asleep in the middle - Something I never did in the original series. John Bowe did not even look like Ross Poldark. A good actor - I liked him in our UK soap Coronation St and he was suitably menacing in Prime Suspect - but he is small in stature with receding hair. What more can I say but that he did not look like Ross Poldark from the book version and seemed uncomfortable in the role. The scripts of series 1 left a lot to be desired but Poldark 3 - from the bit I saw when I was awake - was awful. The only good thing was Ioan Gryffydd as Jeremy.

 That is sad to hear I guess I will not try to get it on Amazon.com.
But I will try to get the books. I have the Four Swans as the last of my Poldark series.

Even if you go no further than The Angry Tide, Berry, which is the 7th in the series, and follows on from The Four Swans, you'll find much to enjoy. :) (Poldark 2 ends with The Angry Tide.) The rest of the books -

The Stranger from the Sea

The Miller's Dance

The Loving Cup

The Twisted Sword

Bella Poldark

are all wonderful in their different ways.

Welcome to the world of Poldark, Berry! :)

Welcome to the Poldark Universe. The books are all wonderful (especially the first seven) and the TV series is special.

After you have finished all of the books and videos, be sure and share with us your favorite character, favorite book and favorite scene from the books or series.

Poldark 3-Is that how it ends?

Post by jmella »

Greetings,

I, too, am new to the Poldark universe and have been sucked in, quite to the detriment of all the things I SHOULD be doing! Of course, I'm enjoying it nonetheless.

I have just finished watching all of Poldark 1 and 2 on video. Simply sumptuous! I'm very interested in Regency fashion, so was looking forward to watching the Poldark 3 movie (the John Bowles/Mel Martin one) though I knew it would be a disappoinment not to see the original actors. Anyway, after watching Poldark 3 on DVD I got to the end and felt that it must be part of a series. It ends with Clowance on the beach with the bonfires burning behind her and the shipwrecked guy (can't recall his name) behind her. It just doesn't seem like it should be over, but our library doesn't have anything which looks like it would be a sequel. What am I missing here? I'd appreciate any information ASAP. It's driving me nuts not knowing!

Cheers.......

Welcome,

There is no video to follow Poldark 3 (which I have never watched). But there are 4 Winston Graham Poldark books which follow the life of Clowance, Stephen, Jeremy and Ross and Demelza.

If you have not read the books, you are in for a real treat. As wonderful as the Poldark BBC series is, the books are better by far--and different.

I only speak for myself and say that it would have been wonderful to have had all of them filmed with the original cast and there was an attempt made before Poldark 3 to do this, but for a number of reasons, it did not happen and Poldark 3 was filmed with a new cast. The general feeling (although as I said I have not seen it), is that it was not very good.

But do think about reading the books if you have not done so. They are very special.

It was a telemovie. Originally made as a taster for a possible series - but Poldark fans and others who had enjoyed the original TV series hated it so much because it was so bad. The TV producers saw this as an indication that it was not worth making any more Poldarks - ever.

Perhaps this is a bit simplistic view but if you are really keen you may be able to pick up a copy from e-bay.

Poldark 3

Post by Shiffie »

I have just joined this list. I never dreamed that there would be other fanatics of Poldark out there!

I just saw the video of Poldark 3. Contrary to most of the posters, I actually liked it! Of course, not having Robin Ellis and Angharad Rees was a major shortcoming. I guess I love anything having to do with Poldark. The scenery was lovely and I enjoyed seeing the next generation. I thought the actors who played Clowance, Jeremy, and Stephen Carrington did a credible job. There were alot of plot lines to juggle and in slightly less than an hour and a half, it got too jumbled. The ending is very frustrating, with Clowance running from Stephen in tears and suddenly credits! I assume they planned to continue the series but it never happened. I for one would LOVE to see the rest of books serialized (Miller's Dance, Loving Cup, Twisted Sword, Bella Poldark. Is there any hope at all of that happening?
