Whether or not this includes a new thread would be optional, But I think it's a new year and perhaps time for a slight change in concept.
Is it highly desirable to require new Genre's every post? Is this the thing that perhaps intimidates some people? perhaps a minor tweak to the rules could be along the lines:
May not use the same genre as the previous 5 posts.
OR:
May not use the same genre as any OTHER post ON THE SAME PAGE
OR to consider a much more radical change:
May not use any character in the same genre that character has been in before.
Along the lines of modifying the character usage:
May not use characters created by other writers in the actual post - must refer to them "off-stage" as it were...
Some other thoughts:
Require a minimum post length.
Require a maximum post length.
Require a minimum number of characters.
Require a maximum number of characters.
All rules can be "broken" simply providing for a lower score...
Offer bonus scores for "resurrecting" old plot lines that are greater than 5 posts old.
Offer bonus scores for inclusion of muliple story lines.
Charge a penalty for killing off characters not your own
So. What does everybody else think? Should we discuss possible variations a little more? I do recognise I haven't done all that much posting before - and I can't promise to do any more posting this year - but there is a possibility I can...
I will come back to this....

OK - Thought I'd pull this into the new commentaryBrad wrote:KILTY: funny that you should worry about things being too complicated and scaring off noobs ... just before you propose a whole slew of new rules that will accomplish precisely that.![]()
I think we should keep the genre change rule - that's part of what makes the volleyball game what it is.
As for the rest ... the simpler we keep it, the better.
To be continued in the 2005 commentary thread ...
Ummm - I think that I never pretended to a high level of consistancy...
HOWEVER - what I really SHOULD have put in my comments above I state now:
I am only suggesting a few ideas of which 1, some or none can be taken...
I am by NO MEANS suggesting that you guys do ALL of them!
I am thinking though that the idea of changing the flavour slightly each year may be fun? Maybe not too...
anyways - I was just throwing up some ideas for comment and/or discussion - if everybody likes the idea of status quo with a reset on genres - that would work just as well too...

I like the idea of minimum number of new 9major) characters. Too many and it makes it hard to maintain any sort of consistency.
Of course, maybe consistency is low priority for everyone else....
DUnno.

Just because characters are introduced by some doesn't mean that others are somehow obliged to use those characters ... when it comes right down to it, our only requirement for continuity is making a smooth transition from the post immediately preceeding the one we write. Going back further than that is strictly optional, and entirely a matter of personal amusement.

I changed the rules over in the first post to reflect the change we had approved last year from a one hour to a Two Hour Time Limit to make your post.
Oh, I can't make good on my earlier promise to score the posts today. I'll get alll three (or more) tomorrow.

Can we also clarify that by pointing out that although we have a 2 hr window in which to post (after putting up a "my turn" placeholder), it's generally recommended that we spend no more than 1 total hour of that time doing the actual writing ... the goal being to keep posts reasonably short and therefore less intimidating to others.

Very good CHo,
What is amazing is that the bimbo (Mrs. Bobby Ray Mackelroyce not Cho) spelled quagmire right.
