Telling, The

This is a wonderful book.
I love the subtle nature of the old culture, and the peculiarity of space travel that means that what Sutty studied and the culture she thought she was coming to live among had been swept away by something new by the time she got there.
The way she discovered what remained, piecemeal, was convincing, and I liked the way she changed during the book, starting off afraid to offend anyone and at last realising the power she had as a Mobile of the Ekumen to change the culture of an entire planet.

And I'm automatically in favour of people who try to save libraries.

I'd recommend this book to anyone, even people who claim not to like SF. It's Ursula le Guin at the top of her form.
