Stare at this one a while. Pretty soon your own eyes start to go whacky.

I am a poor, wayfaring stranger
Wandering through this world of woe
But there's no sickness, no fear or danger
In that bright land
To which I go

It was Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank.

Read it--it's good.

Here's the next--which is one of the best books I've ever read.
The Delliverator belongs to an elite order, a hallowed subcategory. He's got esprit up to here. Right now, he is preparing to carry out his t hird mission of the night. His uniform is black as activated charcoal, filtering the very light out of the air. A bullet will bounce off its arachnofiber weave like a wren hitting a patio door, but excess perspiration wafts through it like a breeze through a freshly napalmed forest. Where his body has bony extremities, the suit has sintered armorgel: feels like gritty jello, protects like a stack of telephone books.
If you don't love that description--there's something wrong!
I am a poor, wayfaring stranger

But there's no sickness, no fear or danger
In that bright land
To which I go

I know that one!

But according to the rules, I can't answer unless no-one else gets it in 5 days... :|
It's a metaphor of human bloody existence, a dragon. And if that wasn't bad enough, it's also a bloody great hot flying thing.

Ah, in that case - it's 'Snow Crash' by Neal Stephenson. One of the best cyberpunk books ever written.

Well, since no one has gotten this in SO VERY LONG.... I wasn't going to resort to my low standars of quote search, but I had to.

Is it The Wasp Factory?

i like this smiley ... mostly because i can actually do that. and yes, "aaahhh my head hurts" is what happens if i do it for more than a couple of seconds so i don't do it very often. it is great for freaking people out though.
