Clowder

Can anyone guess the meaning of this word?

And how 'bout:

Ovine
Edacious
Eidolon
Viviparous
Uxorial
Tenebrous
Sinapism
Reify
Quotidian

Well, that's all for now...

Well,

Eidolon is the name of a metal band.
In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

 LOL, jweb! But quite right. Clowder is a grouping of cats, though the term itself denotes the subject.

And Eidolon may very well be a Metal Band, but what does the word itself mean?

An image or representation. Or a phantasm, apparition, spectre, etc.

I wonder, does that mean the band is spooky, or without substance? Hmmm... :|

Perhaps.

But it sounds like a good name for a Metal Band to me.

How 'bout Clowder as the name of a Jazz Band or something...?

And by the way, my wife and I could never quite agree on the exact connotation of uxorious. For some reason, I can't seem to convince her that (technically) it's a bad thing to be uxorious.

I don't know. I think any band named Clowder would have to cover "Cat Scratch Fever".

I'm sure she'd love it if you were uxorious to her.

But if you were uxorial...well, she might take it the wrong way...

As long as you don't practice ovine relations like BKM, I think you're gonna be all right.

They could improvise a Jazz version of the song...I'm sure it would sound awesome! :deviate:

OK, let's see...
The uxorial eidolon paid me its quotidian visit as I concocted a sinapism in the tenebrous hours before dawn. It was edacious, and consumed my ovine victuals faster than a viviparous clowder, impelling me to reify its insatiateness.
How's that Aunflin?

I honestly used to think I had a large vocabulary.

Thread Moderated:

I just moved it to the "Quill & Fountain".

Don't know why I didn't think of this before - but it really does suit being here much better.

Indeed, it does, kilt. (Don't know why it never occurred to me, either...)

how bout one that i just saw in a book and can't find @ dictionary.com or with google.

pissaciously - found in C.J. Cherryh's Explorer.

as used:
An hour and more until the aliens knew they were slowing and turning - and signaling their intentions. Which might also make a shot miss them, if the aliens pissaciously fired before they considered the blink signal.

obviously, it looks like a synonym for 'rash action'. possible misspelling?

I can't find it, either, BKM. And I looked up every similar sounding word I could think of:

pis aller:a last resort or device.

piscary: the right of fishing in waters of another

piscine: of, relating to, or characteristic of fish

pissoir: a public urinal located in the street in some European countries.

pessary: a vaginal suppository

There were some others that "looked" similar in one way or another.

But I couldn't find pissacious/pissaciously or pessacious/pessaciously or passacious/passaciously. And I looked through every word book I've got--and I have many.

It almost sounds like a made up word or even slang of some sort. However, maybe it is a real word, though mayhap not English.

Hmmm...

This is gonna nag at my mind...

I went and checked out Meriam-Websters's sight since BKM couldn't find it at dictionary.com and...nothing. The word pissaciously is not listed as a word. Maybe, I should go to the Oxford dictionary sight...but that costs money...hmmm...

naw naw, no need to spend money on me, especially when it could just be an editing error (although cherryh does know latin ... latin word or derivative with an -ly suffix?).

i'd email cherryh but she's got a note on her web site saying she's WAAAYYY behind on email and asking for submissions to be withheld.

It means "as if taking a piss in the wind."
heh, yeah, that's it.
