Game: Antonyms

Post by Kvetch »

I've come up with another, rather more cerebral, game:

along the lines of the MQG, the idea is to post a (serious) word, and the challenge is to find it's antonym (opposite).

Normally this wouldn't be to hard, so try going for the obscurer words ( posting hot/cold will hardly help make this thread very interesting). In the process some interesting points of semantics may come up.

my word: Oxymoron.

NB: don't post a definition, that's part of the fun: the way we understand the meaning of words should be enlightening (for instance, my use of the word 'prevaricate' (as a synonym for procrastinate), is at odds with it's dictionary definition.)

I'm sad arn't I?

Your very sad.

I'd say consensus. Do I have to explain why I chose it?

My word: Abnegator.

p.s. That is a good game idea. :)

I'd have to go with a true believer

My word =Plagiocephaly
I am a poor, wayfaring stranger
Wandering through this world of woe
But there's no sickness, no fear or danger
In that bright land
To which I go

/can't think up a one word answer, so I'll go with a phrase:

golfball head(that's the furthest away from a malformed skull i can get)

interestingly, my antonym for oxymoron was tautology: rather than two contradictory images juxtaposed, two identical images juxtaposed

since my antonym sucks, I elect to leave 'Plagiocephaly' open

/can't think up a one word answer, so I'll go with a phrase:

leiocephaly(that's the furthest away from a malformed skull I can get - it OUGHT to mean smooth skull in latin. don't know if it does)

interestingly, my antonym for oxymoron was tautology: rather than two contradictory images juxtaposed, two identical images juxtaposed

juxtaposed (have no idea if there is a single word that is the antonym of this)

omg my head hurts. I'm going back to the stupid people threads.
In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

Isn't "chiral" a chemistry term? if I stretch back to high school chem, I think it's a molecule that can't be super-imposed on itself backwards or mirrored or something like that... I could be *way* off base...
