Say, I wonder if Johnson & Johnson might consider making a new brand of K-Y, for whose whose natural 'creative juices' are insufficient to the 'task at hand'

/me rushes off, to submit a patent application ...

OK - I just went back and read a couple of pages in the writers vollyball.

My head is spinning - And I realise that my attempt at switching the plot was in fact quite tame!!!

I wrote my small effort while at work - and I barely get time to breath while there...

Sorry Brad..but the republican Party patented artificial Creative Juices back when Nixon was in office.

As for the tameness of genre switching... what a person wears in the privacy of their own home is their own business.

Oh... wait... I think I misunderstood....

Really ?

Ben Stein used to be a speech writer for Tricky Dicky, but he never said anything about a patent like that.

/me grabs the K-Y and wanders off to do some additional manual 'research'. ;)

Hmm, I should have known it wouldn't take long before references to 'creative juices' and K-Y started getting passed around in here.

AND WHO LEFT THE DAMN TOILET SEAT UP??
Why do people say they 'slept like a baby', when babies only sleep for 2 hours at a time?

That would be Kilty - I heard him tossing his cookies after rushing that murder scene. He's a softie, and manly violence apparently makes him queasy ;)

Ok, we've hit a lull, and we need a few warm bodies to help get the ball rolling again.

Perhaps we should we recruit IllusionaryIllustrator, and put her in the hot seat ?

C'mon ... grab your driving iron and step up to the Tee. :D

yeh II, take a bash at it... just channel a little 2002 Tiger and swing away.

[note: Tiger Woods in 2002 was arguable the most dominate golfer / year that ever was, he was simply unbeatable. His 2003 season was good but nothing like 2002]

I'd love to, but i'm still trying to figgure out what's going on, without reading 4 pages of posts. I'm behind I'm sorry. Darn parents and grounding me off the internet. So are we writing a story or talking about the story being written...or what?
Help me boys, i'm just a poor wandering one. ((Point to whoever gets that quote!))(i guess that'd be wondering here.)

basically... this fora is about the story in the other fora (think running commentary as we write over there)... and the other fora is a story... but you only HAVE to match up with the end of the post that came before... you can get more complex if you want.

TREB: Aww, dont encourage her to skip it ... it's only 2 pages, and some of it is VERY amusing

II: Yeah, what Terb said ... the sister thread is the thread we post to, and this parallel thread is for razzing each other and discussing what's happening.

Hey, I didnt have a monopoly on the humor posts - Di & EM posted some very funny stuff too.

Still, it'd be nice if someone would help steer the thread into a more serious direction occasionally - as well as post in something other than trivial length. Cooperative threads have a natural tendancy towards humor and brevity.

Don't get me wrong - brevity & humor have their advantages, because they lower the self-consciousness and intimidation factor for noobs and makes it easier for more more people to jump in & participate off the cuff.

Anyway, the not-so-secret plan was to hook people with humor, then entice them with a variety of genres and encourage them to attempt progressively longer and more serious posts - to build confidence and experience :)

NEW RULE:

Anyone who experiences total blockage is encouraged to ignore any need for continuity with the previous post, and stike out in a completely different direction of their own choosing.

It's be nice if you could still find some way, however subtle, of making a token effort at referencing the prior post somewhere (anywhere) in your piece, but if it just doenst work out, dont let it stop you.

Just write, and forget the rules.

Rules are there to provide a general sense of direction - not get in the way.

Hiya all, just thought I'd point out that I'm still breathing  I haven't read anything anywhere, I may or may not get a chance soon :( Had to throw a christening/60th birthday party for kids/mom, then there's the whole small children thing and the fact my computer has something wrong with it. But the breathing, that's still going on!

Anybody hear from EM? Guess HIS new baby is keeping him busy too! I bet THAT was a big wake up call for him :snicker:

Anyhoo, hi all!

Glad to hear everything's ok, Grilka :)

As for EM ... I hope the new baby is healthy & happy, and that daddy (and mommie) are both doing well too.

I also hope EM returns here when time (and 3am feedings) permit - we miss him, even though he is a bit of an instigator :D

If you see him, please forward our regards and best wishes.

Wow...just thinking about the varied guest list of a party like this is making my head hurt... You would have Bob the Builder and Bob Barker as the "talent".

OK... try this one on for size:

Genre = Alternate History
Sub-Genre #1: Civil War
Sub-Genre#2: Assault Weapons
(just channel Harry Turtledove)

:D Looking forward to it Brad, thanks for letting me pick. And remember you said you were going to make it serious instead of silly, I am still holding you to that.

Gee, I offer to write a serious post, and ask you to pick the genre - and you pull a "whose line is it anyway" thingee on me

Ok, lemme see what I can cobble together ... probably sometime in the next few days.

Looks like the only way to thread that multi-genre needle you requested is a quantum-leap style theme ...

Damn, and I never even watched that show

Last chance to change your mind, Treb. Speak now, or prepare for a vigorous plot fisting

Sorry - overtime crunch at work takes precedence. What little free online time I've had lately has been consumed by helping get a new forum for my club set up.

I have not forgotten, and I have some ideas ...

In fact, I'll go ahead and post a downpayment with an opening paragraph:
As Tomas was reentering his house, little did he know that on the freeway a short distance away there was something amazing happening. The morning commuters could not believe that....

... traffic was finally beginning to MOVE, after having been blocked for several hours by a nasty accident involving a Good Humor Ice Cream Truck, and a Pickle Truck. It was a sure bet that various newscasters, along with Jay Leno and David Letterman, would be making sport of that in their evening monologues.

Meanwhile ...
Sorry - had to squeeze in the obligatory pickle reference ;)

Yikes I blew your down payment out of the water, sorry about that. Easily converted, I think! Meanwhile I couldn't do any more, even this is killing me. Ever try to type with a 4 year old and an 8 month old on your lap? And the baby is trying to pull the enticing long hair in front of him all the while. And the girl is trying to click on all the smiley faces. OK go ahead!

    :smash: :slap:  8) :) :D

(another bout of insomnia while on vacation in Maryland)

S'all right :)

I apologize for it having taken so long for me to post - been uber busy lately, and to be honest, my mind kept blanking on me.

I'll try to set the debt aright a bit further down the road, as time permits :)

p.s. IllusionaryIllustrator: very nice post !

Aunflin - I am kind of lost... where are you going? For a while I thought you were trying to twist my post into a psychotic eposode, but now I am not so sure... interesting.

Brad - I think we might have enough people reading this forum to keep this bad boy going for a while now... what do you think?
