Fortunately, I don't have to have either punishment inflicted on me, though I'm not sure that I wouldn't prefer keelhauling to kissing the bo'sun's daughter. It involves being stretched over the cannon mounts and walloped within an inch of your life. Ouch. Usually reserved for the younger set. Like a spanking to the 10th power. I don't really know why they called it kissing the bos'un's daughter.

Unfortunately, you don't know where it came from.

I think a stupid sailor actually kissed the bosun's daughter and had that happen to him, poor soul.

Fortunately, the world, at least the world we live in, has moved past those awful punishments. You're probably right about the origin. I'll have to see if I can hunt it up on the net. I heard about it while watching a The Caine Mutiny, I think. maybe it was Mutiny on the Bounty. I know the Captain took this young boy by the ear and said, "And you, sir, shall kiss the bos'un's daughter." Then, they whaled the tar outta him. Poor kid. he looked like he was about 12.

Unfortunately, some people actually had to go through it.

Fortunately, neither you nor I will have to go through it. Though I did get whacked with a switch a few times in my misspent youth. Not as bad as kissing the bos'un's daughter, but not good either.

(I'm not saying I didn't deserve it, mind you. I was told again and again not to climb up the windmill, but I did it anyway. More than once. Was I stupid? Must be so.)

Unfortunately, you got switched.

Was it fun, climbing on the windmill?

Climbing the windmill was great! You could see for miles. Sitting up there for an hour and a half, hoping my mom and dad, who were pacing below with switches, would get sick of waiting for me to come down so they could whack me with them, was not so great.

Fortunately, they were often gone, mom to work and dad to the field, and I could climb the windmill with impunity. Bah ha ha.

Unfortunately, I've never climbed a windmill........But I'd like to try, before my shoulders and legs get too out of whack.

Fortunately, you're still young and have your best climbing days yet ahead of you.

Just be careful when you do. And pick a sturdy windmill--though grain legs are fun too. And usually safer. Just be sure you are sober when you climb them.

Remember, I've injured myself multiple times before? My shoulder's twitching right now just from moving my computer.

Thanks for the advice, I don't think I'll climb a windmill when I'm drunk though

UNFORTUNATELY, you forgot to say unfortunately, so now I'm worried you will forget to stay sober while climbing tall objects.

sigh.

Fortunately, it wasn't an un/fortunately post, it was merely a statement and a thank you.

Unfotunately, I have already put my head in a vise and squished it back to more acceptable proportions. It's a little flatter, but it now fits through the door.

Unfortunately, I have to prepare my house to be seen by people who may (probably do) want to buy it. So I may not be able to play as enthusiastically as usual. Sniff.

Fortunately, you may be moving out of the cornfield soon. :D

Fortunately, if you sell now, you won't be moving in the middle of a VERY rainy and muddy winter.
