Already before Marco Polo, explorers, traders and invaders went east.

But the Orient ate alive those who left without thorough preparation.

indoctrinate

verb
in·doc·tri·nate | \ in-ˈdäk-trə-ˌnāt \
indoctrinated; indoctrinating
transitive verb
1 to imbue with a usually partisan or sectarian opinion, point of view, or principle
2 to instruct especially in fundamentals or rudiments : teach

-=0=-

Bob never tried to indoctrinate his students at any time during his time as a teacher. He wished, instead, to expand their horizons.

Image

Indoctrination, it seems to me, is like the effects of optical illusions with the "indoctrinator" trying to convince us the gray lines are not straight when they actually are.

Optical illusion above is a recreation of the Coffeehouse illusion from a Wired Magazine article:
"__Coffeehouse__University of Bristol researchers discovered this illusion in the early 1970s while looking at the tiled wall of a café. Hence the name, Café Wall Illusion. The gray lines in between the rows of white and black squares seem to converge, but they are actually parallel. Your brain, overwhelmed by the intense and closely-spaced black-and-white contrasts, sees the gray lines as part of the tile either above or below it. The lines end up appearing higher on alternating sides, creating the trapezoidal illusion. __Thomas Hunt__"

Henri wished he were a "broad strokes" kind of guy, but he simply could not avoid niggling over every phrase and comma in any document. His software documentation was woefully unfinished. It didn't help at all that his first draft was done with a quill.
