XXX's reassurances seemed effective, the talk drifted to less threatening channels for a while. Much later, ;the airseal doors parted, and ZZZ stuck his head in.
"We got AAA's signal," he said simply.

YYY?
ZZZ?
AAA?
Book? Falling Free (my copy of which I can't find right now)
XXX? Claire
YYY? Some other quaddie girl. I don't remember any other girl's name but Silver; but there are two reasons YYY is not her: a) from the dialogue, YYY is pregnant, and b) Silver is away, highjacking the superjumper with Ti and a few more quaddies at that time
ZZZ? some quaddie; definitely not Tony, he was stuck on Rodeo at that time; the only other quaddie name I remember is Pramod, but I have no idea whether ZZZ is indeed Pramod or someone else.
AAA? Silver confirming the highjacking was successful (or maybe Leo who waited to hear that much from Silver to give the signal to start the rebellion ?)

"Fine. I order you to use your initiative."

A longer quote
"Introduce him to half a dozen of your girlfriends. I can't believe we won't run across some here. Tell them he's the man who taught you all you know about the XXX Art of Love."
"He's not my type," said YYY through his teeth.
"So use your initiative!"
"I don't have initiative. I follow orders, thank you. It's much safer."
"Fine. I order you to use your initiative."
YYY breathed a bad word, by way of editorial. "I'm going to regret this, I know I am."
Book ?
Who is "he/him" ?
XXX (an adjective) ?
First, third and fifth to speak ?
YYY (also the fourth to speak) ?

XXX (an adjective) ?
First, third and fifth to speak ?
YYY (also the fourth to speak) ?

Hints:

a) YYY appears in fewer books than the other character (first, third and fifth to speak). But in most of those, there is one or more dialogs very similar to this one (the end, at least) between them.

b) "he" appears only in this book.

Okay.
It's been long enough so I'll have a go at it (without checking, which I'll do after posting this).

Book ? A Civil Campaign
Who is "he/him" ? Lord Dono, formerly Lady Donna
XXX (an adjective) ? Cetagandan
First, third and fifth to speak ? Byerly
YYY (also the fourth to speak) ? Ivan

Indeed, only one element is correct, namely YYY

But I did say that YYY appears less often than the other speaker....

This should be a further hint !

Sorry for being under-reactive, I had only under-access to the Internet.

Hints:

b) "he" appears only in this book.

EPS correctly guessed that YYY is Ivan. For that he gets 1/2 point to be regularised when the main question is answered.

So for the next quote but only 1/2 point :
Book ?
First, third and fifth to speak ? (from Hint (a) above this is essentially obvious)

Bonus, for an extra 1/2 point :
Who is "he/him" ?
XXX (an adjective) ?

If a player guesses correctly only one answer, the whole bonus goes to whomever (same player or another) guesses the second one

A couple of questions:
1) Are we using, "Captain Vorpatril's Alliance" quotes yet?
2) Are we using, "Cyroburn" quotes yet?
3) What is the wait time when I can answer this quote, since I answered the previous one? I seem to recall 5 days, but I'm not sure.

Thanks!

Cryoburn has been in the game for a several years ! And yes, we decided recently to use "Captain Vorpatril's Alliance", too. And even more recently we agreed to use also "Penric's Demon", in the World of Chalion.

The wait time for the player who answered the previous one is indeed 5 days, but that starts from the initial form of the question. Any longer quote, or any hints, or whatever rewriting of the question (like splitting a bonus out of the original one, as I just did) does not re-initialize the wait time. So you have been allowed to answer any time from March 6th, 1:32 am forum time (which is the time that appears when one is logged out), you don't need to wait till March 26.

Correct on all fronts !
The next quote is yours, as well as two half points (one for sharing the main question with EPS, and another for the bonus).

"We don't want to stay here"', said AAA. "I want to get back to my creatures!"
BBB-CCC waved his nibbled pizza slice in the air. "Asylum?"

Book?
AAA?
BBB-CCC?

Not sure how to explain "BBB-CCC", other than to say, when you know who it is, you'll know who it is.
And you can't just answer, "Oh, it's Bob". It has to be as it's written in the book.

Oh FYI, EPS : even though you got 1/2 point for the main question (not the bonus) you are not concerned by the "wait period". You can answer James's question at any time, and the next one too (unless you ask it yourself, of course !). The rule only applies to the player who asked the previous question (me this round, and James next round).

I think I can give a few hints.

"Creatures" suggests a kid's little ménagerie.
"Asylum" suggests an embassy or consulate.
BBB-CCC could be a polite form of address.

I know.

But if I happen to be correct, then I'll have to exhaust myself finding a new quote, and right now I'm experiencing a wave of acute retiree's laziness.

At the moment I prefer to continue rereading about Cordelia and Oliver and let others knock themselves out. Image

You can also answer, and if you are right, pick up your sherlock and offer the next quote to the first player willing to post one.
The only penalty is that you are forbidden to answer the next one at all (although, after 15 days, even this would be tolerated, in fact). But that would perfectly fit with your
acute retiree's laziness
so why not ?

Edit
Well, no in fact. There is a second penalty: on the quote after the next one, the 5-days exclusion would apply to you, as legitimate poster of the next one, while the actual poster of the next one will be allowed to answer immediately the one after his own... Still, all this will fit with your laziness, so, again, why not ?
