XXX is several words, I don't need the exact wording, just the meaning : so who are "I" and "he", and what is [XXX] ?"[...] He thinks he can [XXX]. I think... I choose to believe he can."

Re: LMB Quote Game
Damn, I had the perfect quote, but I can't find it again now that I'm looking for it, so what I find in a pinch will have to do.
Re: LMB Quote Game
The quote felt like Cordelia's to me but I could not find it either in _Barrayar_ about either Vaagen (or Henri) saving Miles, or in _Mirror Dance_ about Mark finding Miles on Jackson Whole...
So how about a little hint?

Ok : "I" and "he" both physically appear only in this book.

Ok, a bit more :
"[...] The inmates are taking over the asylum. He thinks he can [XXX]. I think... I choose to believe he can."

And I thought that "The Clans of the Alphane Moon" were by Philip K. Dick, not LMB.....

I = IngreyCaroline Tredez wrote:Ok, a bit more :"[...] The inmates are taking over the asylum. He thinks he can [XXX]. I think... I choose to believe he can."
he = Wencel
[XXX] = "take over his heir's body"

And here I thought it would become too easy
Nope, no Ingrey nor Wencel anywhere in this book. It was an interesting guess, though.

Time for a new hint, don't you think ?

Happy new year !
Yeah, a further expansion is long overdue :
I = ?
I'd never have thought it could survived a whole month...

[Y] = He = ?"I was writing up protests, but [Y] here beat me to it. Rather more effectively, I suspect. The inmates are taking over the asylum. He thinks he can [XXX]. I think... I choose to believe he can."

Re: LMB Quote Game
Happy New Year to everyone from me, too.
Oddly enough, your expansion has not made things easier. Clearly, it's been too long since I've read things.
*goes away muttering, "protests..."*

Re: LMB Quote Game
Found it! I KNEW it was Falling Free.
Speaker is Dr. Minchenko, to Mama Nilla."I was writing up protests, but Graf here beat me to it. Rather more effectively, I suspect. The inmates are taking over the asylum. He thinks he can convert the Habitat into a colony ship. I think . . . I choose to believe he can."
Three cheers for literacy . . . I feel sick.

Well, that is ... I'll take your word for it.

So post a new one ASAP, will you?

Here it is, then. Hopefully it's an easy one.

Re: LMB Quote Game
Hopefully, not a hard one :
Book ?
XXX ?
YYY ZZZ ?
WWW ?
oops
I forgot to ask this, but it is part of the question, not just for a bonus :
What is "That" which is even crazier ?
"That's rubbish" exploded XXX. "That's even crazier than the idea of my becoming YYY ZZZ!"
"Hold that thought," advised the WWW.

Re: LMB Quote Game
Mirror Dance
Xxx: Mark
YYY ZZZ is Count Vorkosigan
Www is the Countess (I'd always thought it was the Count. Not reading close enough, and making assumptions, I guess...)
The crazier thought is Mark becoming the Emperor in his own right (instead of as a fake Miles).

Re: LMB Quote Game
An extension then, probably making it significantly easier:
Book?
Speaker?
Who is Xxx?
"Collateral ancestors at most, Xxx. But I suggest you not share that insight around. Some folks are like to be offended."
What have I married into, really?
Book?

Who is Xxx?

Fawn to Dag in Legacy ? She's wondering about Dag's "collateral ancestors", otherwise known as Malices, after he explained the tale of their origins.
Re: LMB Quote Game
Correct. Your Sherlock, and next quote! (I honestly thought the "folk are like to be" along with the new marriage would make it obvious. Guess not!)
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

Re: LMB Quote Game
Sorry for the delay, here's the next quote :
Who's talking, to who ?"One learns better than to hand one's choices to fear. With age, with every wound and scar, one learns."
Re: LMB Quote Game
I would have suggested, Dag to Fawn, but since that was the answer to the last quote (well, reversed), I suppose not. Anyway I don't see any precise scene in any of the four books of TSK.
So a little hint, maybe ?
