Oh.. I understand.
I just felt bad about depriving Suzette of one of her good answers when I did not need it...
I hope she comes back soon and guesses correctly among the only two choices left...

Don't worry about it, voralfred. The kids are on summer vacation, and taking all the computer time. Feel free to guess all you'd like.
So there's only two unknowns left? I'll guess R is 11 (based on all the Komarran politics, though there's a lot of that in ACC too), and C for 15. If I'm wrong, then someone else can flip them, and the block quotes are over.

Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

(Hm ... the most succinct gamble I ever made. Also the easiest. Though I may still be wrong. Hm ...)
Re: LMB Quote Game
Yep, you're right. I just found the biology isn't destiny quote in ACC (between Miles and Rene Vorbretton).
I can't seem to pick the fastest line at the grocery store, either. Ah well.

Re: LMB Quote Game
Seems everything was found. Here I post a recap :
Sherlocks hard to give, but let's say 1/2 to sarsaparilla, 1/2 for SPetty, and 2 for voralfred (counting the bonus I owed him), along with the next quote. The trouble with the position, he found, was that in whatever direction you looked there fell away a glassy, uncontrollable slide down to a strange future you would then have to live in.
→ Ethan in Chapter 10, Ethan of Athos.
People are the only mirror we have to see ourselves in. The domain of all meaning. All virtue, all evil, are contained only in people. There is none in the universe at large.
→ Cordelia in Chapter 13, Mirror Dance
A rose by any other name.
→ Miles to Eli in Chapter 1, Brothers in Arms
The wounded want power, nothing else; they think it will keep them from being hurt again.
→ Miles thinking about Tris, The Borders of Infinity
Let the challenge emerge, don’t rush to meet what you cannot yet see.
→ Miles's thought in Labyrinth
I am Fortune’s fool.
→ Miles before Haut Rian, Chapter 5, Cetaganda
I did not fully understand the situation here.
→ A Felician official to Miles, Chapter 14, The Warrior’s Apprentice
I knew there’d be a jar turn up in this story somewhere.
→ Miles to Harra, The Mountains of Mourning
And have you stopped beating your wife ?
→ Miles about fallacies and Tung, Chapter 14, The Vor Game
That was a very, uh, knightly deed.
→ Cordelia to Bothari, Chapter 7, Shards of Honor
She knew perfectly well what he meant, but she wanted to see him run to his limit. All the way, damn you; spit it all out.
→ Cordelia to Piotr, Chapter 15, Barrayar
Just because we’re adults doesn’t automatically mean we can save you…
→ Leo, Chapter 12, Falling Free
Now he will attempt to make me feel guilty. All my fault.
→ Ekaterin thinking about her spouse, Chapter 9, Komarr
Not that every man doesn’t have his price.
→ Miles to the consul, Chapter 8, Cryoburn
Why didn’t anybody stop us ? Why aren’t there more regulations about this sort of things ?
→ Miles, Epilogue of Diplomatic Immunity
All it needed was window slits and a moat. And a few bats and raven, for decoration.
→ About Vorkosigan House, Chapter 4, Memory
Human being are so fragile.
→ Taura in Winterfair Gifts
Biology isn’t destiny ?
Not anymore, it’s not.
→ Miles to Vorbretten, Chapter 6, A Civil Campaign
Re: LMB Quote Game
Next quote for me? I did not get the last ones... EPS did, he deserves at least 1/2 sherlock, doesn't he?
But I did get 12 out of 18, I believe..
Ok, so let's see:
Speaker?
Who just listed the "that" of which all was on accident rather than purpose?
Bonus: list more than half of "that" (if you do it by memory rather than by quoting, I'll decide whether each proposal is close enough to each item)
But I did get 12 out of 18, I believe..
Ok, so let's see:
Book?"Well, it would have been nice if any of that had been on purpose, instead of by accident,"
Speaker?

Looks like a little hint is needed. Alas, it makes the bonus moot!!!!
XXX in an adjective, YYY a noun but they don't bring a bonus, either..
Book, first and second speaker. We uncovered a traitor, plugged a security leak, foiled a kidnapping, and broke up a major plot against the XXX YYY. And we got paid. What more do you want for one week?"

OK, I call it
Anyone can post a new question, on a first come, first serve basis.
As soon as a new quote is posted, mine loses the power of giving the right to post the following one.
However, it would still bring a full sherlock, indefinitely, to anyone who answers it. And as long as a new question is not yet posted, if someone answers it, (s)he gets the new quote, not anyone else.

I never gamble. Except for peanuts, chips (the edible kind, crisps to the British) and in the LMB Quote Game.Caroline Tredez wrote:I believe I forgot to ask, come to think on it.
So here goes:
In the epilogue of The Warrior's Apprentice, Miles replies this to Kostolitz, when the latter asks whether Miles has permission to carry his antique dagger with the Vorkosigan seal in the hilt.

Hey, not a bad guess, but no (Miles in fact HAS permission, for once, in the event you recall). But you give me my hint : it is about permission. But permission to what ?

I'm going to be out of town and away from the internets for about a week, so in the interest of keeping things going, I bequeath my New Quote Privileges on the first person to post a new quote! (Assuming my answer is correct, that is.)

If no one takes me up on it, I'll post one when I get back.
Three cheers for literacy . . . I feel sick.

Miles and Captain Illyan use a "battery bomb" to catch fish in Memory.

Ijada to Ingrey in Hallowed Hunt (about the fact that the Weald descendants had mixed with Darthacans enough so that there were few if any of full Weald blood left).
I'd originally thought it was Horseriver to Ingrey, but decided to read the book through rather than looking for the quote. Probably a good thing, as it was closer to the beginning of the book than I would have looked.
