Happy new year everyone :) .
Bravo! You are perfectly correct.

But your picture looks like a modern wood burning stove, designed for heating and cosiness but not for cooking. I was thinking of an antique "Leuvense stoof" (Leuven stove, poêle de Louvain), fueled with coal preferably, which totally corresponds to Fawn's comments. (Search Google Images for "leuvense stoof")
"It has to be so much better for heating, because a fireplace only shows one face to a room, and this thing shows, what, six. Six times better. And you wouldn't have to bend and crouch to cook on it, and it wouldn't blow smoke in your face, either, and you're less like to catch your clothes or hair on fire, too!" Oh, I want one!

To add coal to the stove, one used a coal bucket:

Still, your picture comes quite close enough to award you the bonus and the next conundrum.

And a good 2012 to you too!

P.S.
When I went to primary school (1950) the classroom was heated with something like this:

Ok, so next quote is :
"[...] Now, robbing at gunpoint actually work. [...]"

Now, first hint : neither "who" nor "whom" are specific to this book : they appear in at least one other.

Also, in my e-book version, the quote actually is:
"[...] Now, robbing at gunpoint actually works. [...]"
And thereby I disqualify myself for the next ten days.

A little more :
"[...]Now, robbing at gunpoint actually works. Selling at gunpoint - not so good."

It is in Cryoburn, "selling" is not about objects, but ideas, namely the "New Hope Liberation Army"'s theories. It is said on the roof of the building where the hostages were detained, in a conversation between Roic and Raven who just escaped. Not sure which of them was speaking and which was listening...

Edit:
Ah, found it: Raven talking to Roic.

I'm doing it EPS's way:
Aral's elder brother, who should have been Count after Piotr, but was killed by Yuri's henchmen, is mentioned in a few occasions. But where are any other siblings mentioned?
I know of one case. Please give a very detailed position of any such mention for me to check, if ever there are cases that I don't know of....

There's an itch tickling my memory that Aral had a sister. But I'm not quite sure and I have no idea when or where she was mentioned.
I guess I'll have to go look for it in my digital version of the saga. Or maybe in the "tropics", or whatever that compilation of Vorkosigan trivia is called?

Alternatively, you could consider the following hint.

Hint:
Where can this sibling be, any time between Aral's and Cordelia first meeting and the end of Cryoburn? Think about it!!!!

I cannot give an extra 1/2 for bonus but

- whoever guesses where astrographically this sibling is gets one 1/2 point but not the next quote
- the second 1/2 point and the quote goes to whoever finds the correct book and passage where the sibling is mentioned (whic would automatically provide the astrographic situation, so no danger of winning the quote while a half-point remains hanging, though it could have been won previously by another player)

Well, unless Count Piotr went gallivanting around (which is not admitted anywhere), any sister to Aral must have been born *before* Aral's and Cordelia's first meeting.

Though there are sisters galore all over the nexus, even twice distinct but large bunches of same-father sisters, I've found only one single instance of a scene mentioning that Aral Vorkosigan has/had a sister too.

But I'll wait until 31 january to post my answer.

Meanwhile, people, shake a leg, or a book, whichever gets you there first.

OK, so it is February 3rd...
If yo udon't want to steal the show, why don't yo ujust say where astrographically this sister is (yes, a sister, not yet another brother), win 1/2 a :sherlock: and give a chance to some other player to find the book and the exact passage and win the second 1/2 point and the quote?

You know, I'm almost sure she's buried in the family plot on Barrayar. The only real detail we see of that is in Mirror Dance, when Mark goes to Vorkosigan Surleau and Elena burns an offering at her father's grave. Well, apart from when Cordelia first arrives, and when Miles goes to burn an offering for his Grandfather, both of which I checked, and didn't see a list of the graves. However, I can't find my copy of Mirror Dance, so I can't confirm it. :(
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

Well, you only have to give the answer, I am the one who has to confirm! And I do!
Yes to the family plot in Vorkosigan Surleau and yes to Mirror Dance, the tour Aral gives Mark on the occasion of Elena's offering on her father's grave.
So you get the full sherlock and the next quote.

I'd bet it's from the very first book I've ever read for LMB : The Vor Game ^^ It's the name of Ahn's coffee machine in Camp Permafrost.

Correct Caroline! Your Sherlock, and you get the next quote. (I'm impressed. I reread the series a few months ago, and I didn't remember about Lt. Ahn and his coffee maker, Georgette until I was looking through it for Voralfred's quote (thinking Miles might have stopped by Vorkosigan Surleau after he got out of limbo)).

From some obscure nook in my memory, and without checking:

When visiting Miles's personal suite in Vorkosigan House in Vorbar Sultana, Miles said it to Ekaterin when he was trying on his "shrunken-in-the-laundry" admiral Naismith uniform, while reminisceing about his Dendarii career.

No, I'm wrong.

But I'm also convinced (like Voralfred) that it's someone reminisceing.

Maybe it's Barr, on the Fetch, confessing that he read and influenced the grounds of his rivermen opponents when gambling in Pearl Riffle.

So the book is either Memory or A Civil Campaign or TSK Passage.
That narrows is down nicely.

Okay. I got it. Literally confirmed it too.

Miles reminisced about his Admiral Naismith career with Simon, while they were on a beer and stunned-fish spree on Lake Surleau (in Memory).
"You were getting frigging clever, is all," opined Illyan, gazing at Miles's distorted form through the colored glass of his bottle. "Though even a war of maneuver requires a credible force to maneuver with."

"I liked the winning," Miles said softly. "That, I really liked."

Illyan chucked his bottle into the box with the rest of the empties, and leaned over to squint down into the lake water. He sighed, and got up and adjusted the awning again, and pulled up the string bag once more, in lieu of fish.
