I am a great fan of Lois MacMaster Bujold myself!
I think her style is unique, finding similarities with her is just impossible. But in a very different style, maybe the richness of her writing, her humanism, can be found in Connie WIllis books: I loved "Passage" (totally different from LMB's "Passage" which is the third book of the TSK tetralogy, except that they both have to do with a ship cruise) and of course all the "time travel" books, namely Doomsday's Book, To Say Nothing of the Dog, the short story Fire Watch and the "Blackout /All Clear " duology.
Speaking of Passage, did you also read LMB's fantasy, the three books in the Chalion Universe, the four TSK books, the singlet "Spirit Ring".. and if yo uare lucky enough to find copy, the collection "Dreamweaver Dilemma", or only the Vorkosigan Saga?

Hello! I am lazerthecat, and I'm new here. At the moment, my favorite genre of literature is either science fiction or adventure, for both genres are ones that I enjoy to read books from. My favorite author is either the four working under the name Erin Hunter for action, or Lois Lowry for a few of her books out of my favorite genres. The books Erin Hunter writes (Warriors and Seekers) are ones that I enjoy a lot, and my favorite Lois Lowry book is The Giver. I picked my username because a character in a book I'm currently writing is named Lazer, and he is indeed a cat. I found IBDoF through another member who showed it to me because of my parcipation in NaNoWriMo this year. A book that I don't think I would ever recommend to a friend is...any of the Maximum Ride books after the first three. In my opinion, after the beginning, there were too many plotholes and the books just didn't feel the same (though I do really like the first three. My top five books are:

1: A Dangerous Path (by Erin Hunter)
2: The Giver (by Lois Lowry)
3: Ender's Game (by Orson Scott Card)
4: The Darkest Hour (by Erin Hunter)
5: A Wrinkle in Time (by Madeleine L'Engle)

Aside from reading, I enjoy writing and drawing (though I tend to keep my works to myself) and I'm getting into acting. I hope to have a great time here!

Hi! New member here. My name is Tom Maringer and I make fantasy coins under the name Shire Post Mint.

The term "fantasy coin" means that these coins are NOT reproductions of anything that ever really existed (at least on this timeline!). The idea is to make coins that are FROM the realm of fantasy that we are immersing ourselves in. The experience of immersive fantasy and that peculiarly fleeting mental state of SOD (suspension of disbelief) is a subject I would enjoy discussing.

I'm currently making coins under license for George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series (better known as Game of Thrones) Also for Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time series", and Patrick Rothfuss' "The Kingkiller Chronicle" series.

I have recently licensed with Leland E. Modesitt Jr. to make coins for his Saga of Recluce" series, and I joined the board mostly to find a way to connect with his fans. So I imagine I'll be spending most of my time on his forum or perhaps the author forums dedicated to Robert Jordan and J.R.R Tolkien.

This is my first visit to this forum... with forums not my favorite venue, I'm trying to navigate in it. I am 81 and retired, married some 54 years, 4 children countless grandchildren (don't wish to count) living in Seattle. majored in Engineering, Chemical & Electronic, worked in Electronics, R&D Semi-conductors and Construction, about 20 years Construction management in US and Europe. Long time Analog subscriber.

If by "McMasters", you mean Lois McMaster Bujold, we have two favorite authors in common, both women, since I also appreciate a lot Anne Perry, especially the William Monk/Hester Latterly series.

One of our members, Algot Runeman posts every day the WoTD and writes a sentence using it. The aim is to write some mre sentences using it and maybe i addition some more recent WoTDs. I rarely contribute, because I am not a native english speaker (I am french). Though I can express myself reasonably well, I always find writing an interesting and witty sentence a bit difficult. Though I am ashamed to admit that the member who contributes most to this thread, EPS a.k.a. E Pericoloso Sporgersi, is himself flemish !

my name is Jenny, i'm from Germany (so please correct any 'germanisms' - if you have the patience ) and I found this wonderful forum on my quest to find a book of which I only remembered the plot. Since I have been obsessed with finding it for the last two weeks, I am very happy that clong could help! I read about a book or two a week, if I can find the time.

My reading is not really of exquisite taste - I mostly read to unwind.

1. Favorite genres: ChickLit (though I guess you are not supposed to call it that) and historic novels, Fantasy
2. Favorite authors: Diana Norman, Rebecca Gablé, Jasper Fforde, Marian Keyes, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Lynn Flewelling
4. Username plantatarium is from another forum, I was just too confused/lazy to pick something new. It is from a hilarious discussion where somebody repeatedly got the word "planetarium" wrong.

6. I'd never recommend to a friend: 50 Shades and "The Deadline: A Novel About Project Management."
