The Modesitt Quote Game
Re: The Modesitt Quote Game
Correct. You're up again.
Pacifism is a shifty doctrine under which a man accepts the benefits of the social group without being willing to pay — and claims a halo for his dishonesty.

Re: The Modesitt Quote Game
First and third line are both speaker 1. The second line is speaker 2."I thought the supersitions of the Legend were beneath you."
"One must know them to disregard them."
"That's a fitting proverb for you."
Two speakers and the book.
In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

I was really hoping someone else would answer this.

Book, X, Y, and Z as usual.L. E. Modesitt, Jr. wrote:
"I'm X," X acknowledged. And this is Y. She's accompanying me to the institute."
"Z, sirs," offered the youngster, probably a fourth-year trainee, X suspected.

I look at it daily, but I don't know the quote and was hoping someone else did.

I'm fairly sure I know the book, but can't quite recall the names, and of course, that's one of the books I don't have immediately on-hand.

The usual - Book, X, Y, and Z."I've read the literature. Don't know all the details, but a (x), brilliant norm by the name of (Y)..."
"(Y), from (Z)?"
"You sound like you know him."
Have at it!

It's almost the five day mark and while I have an idea of where the quote is I think that a hint or extended quote is in order.

Right you are.
It's from a solo book - not part of a series.

Go ahead and post the book and Y. We need to get this thread moving again.

Re: The Modesitt Quote Game
We normally declare a quote cold after a period of time and leave it open for guessing, but provide another quote for the game.
Please provide another so that we can continue.
Also, this game really goes in spurts. It is currently on a down cycle, sometimes we go through 5 quotes in week. Just be patient. We'll get there again.

Right.
The dead info is:
"Medical researcher"
"Eldyn Nyhal"
"Yunvil"
The Octagonal Raven (page 198-9, depending on edition)
NEW Quote:
Book, {X}

NEW Quote:
The usual:"One of these days, someone's going to shoot you."
"They already have. Several times, you might recall."
"You might not survive it the next time."
{X} laughed.

Re: The Modesitt Quote Game
I meant book 3. In retrospect, I think that is Scepters. I have forgotten.
It sounds like a conversation with his #1 (forgot that dude's name).

Re: The Modesitt Quote Game
I think you got the book right Midas. And even if you didn't you got the correct book by the process of elimination because if it isn't Scepters its Darknesses. Why don't you go ahead and post a new quote. I'm not sure what happened to Tranquilis but we need to get this thread moving again.

Re: The Modesitt Quote Game
Book, character spoken to, and situation they are discussing. The speaker is a minor character and not worth trying to figure that out."It's always better to avoid problems than to solve them."
