post surgery, looking for good books
I had spine surgery two weeks ago and a friend loaned me some books to read while laying around. I have 4 more weeks of recovery to go. I googled "book recommendations" and found IBlist website. I read a lot of Mystery, SciFi and Crime books but, anything Fiction passed on to me by friends (except romance). Normally I read about 1 book per week but, I imagine I'll triple that for the next month.
My favorite Series is Frank Herbert's Dune
No favorite authors
Worst book I actually finished was Indecent Exposure

Hi all, I hail from Australia and stumbled upon this site while trying to find out if the house known as Merravay in God Bless This House by Nora Lofts was a real house or not.

We've agreed on several threads that (UNLESS for an assignment) a reader is allowed to dislike, put down, and never again revisit ANY book (no matter how "sacred" that book may be to others). After all, with so many other books out there, why should one waste time on a book that doesn't appeal?

Sue, I am very glad to hear that there are other people out there who did not enjoy Wuthering Heights.
I really only read it because my sister felt that I should read "a real book". Not wanting to appear ignorant of "real" literature, I thought I should give it a try. I got 3/4 of the way through before I finally admitted to myself that I just wasn't enjoying it.
Oh well! I gave it a shot. I guess I shall forever remain a mere reader of novels hehe.

Over the space of four months I picked up the books twice forgetting that I had tried them before and still ended up not going past chapter 2. What on earth is a gap in the context of the story?

B) Iain.M.Banks , any of the Culture series .
C) Harry Turtledove , World at War/Colonisation , The Great war/Americam empire. 2 of the best alternative history sets ever written.
D) Neal Stephenson , The Baroque Cycle ( Quicksilver , The Confusion and The System of the World)
E) David Wingrove , Chung Kuo series 8 books. Blade runner meets Shogun is the best description of this series , superbly written.
F) Lindsey Davis . The Marcus Didius Falco Series . private investigator in rome circa 80AD . you need to read these in the correct order as each follows on from the last book.
G) Tanya Huff , The Blood Book Series , one of the best Vampire series around
