Favorite Authors: Harry Harrison, Philip K. Dick, Iain M. Banks, C.S. Forester, Frank Herbert, Alistair MacLean
Favorite series: Stainless Steel Rat, Deathworld, Hornblower, The Culture Series from Banks, Dune (Only the original)
Favorite novels: Second Variety, Against a Dark Background, H.M.S. Ulysses
How/Why you picked your Member-Name: I'm a freelancer author / screenwriter / writer / director / graphic artist. My nick came from this status a long-long time ago, presumably in a galaxy far-far away. :)

post surgery, looking for good books

Post by dg0007 »

I had spine surgery two weeks ago and a friend loaned me some books to read while laying around. I have 4 more weeks of recovery to go. I googled "book recommendations" and found IBlist website. I read a lot of Mystery, SciFi and Crime books but, anything Fiction passed on to me by friends (except romance). Normally I read about 1 book per week but, I imagine I'll triple that for the next month.

My favorite Series is Frank Herbert's Dune
No favorite authors
Worst book I actually finished was Indecent Exposure

I hope to discover new authors through this group, Thanks!

No smacking is ever allowed. I'm one of the other members of this group who dislike this classic.

We've agreed on several threads that (UNLESS for an assignment) a reader is allowed to dislike, put down, and never again revisit ANY book (no matter how "sacred" that book may be to others). After all, with so many other books out there, why should one waste time on a book that doesn't appeal?

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Sue, I am very glad to hear that there are other people out there who did not enjoy Wuthering Heights.
I really only read it because my sister felt that I should read "a real book". Not wanting to appear ignorant of "real" literature, I thought I should give it a try. I got 3/4 of the way through before I finally admitted to myself that I just wasn't enjoying it.
Oh well! I gave it a shot. I guess I shall forever remain a mere reader of novels hehe.

Welcome ClockworkDoll, blueroses54. Hope you enjoy yourselves here.

blueroses54, I have that same feeling about the two Stephen Donaldson books I tried that you have for Wuthering Heights.

Over the space of four months I picked up the books twice forgetting that I had tried them before and still ended up not going past chapter 2. What on earth is a gap in the context of the story?
