So, next quote :
...unjust to use his daily gift of breath to complain about XXX
Whose "gift of breath" ? In which book ? What's XXX ? Context ?

Bonus : Somewhere else, someone else shouldn't "use [his] gift of breath to complain of [something]" : Who, Where, and what's [something] then ?

Slightly more :
Better luck than mine. No, unjust to use his daily gift of breath to complain about his luck.
And since I'm at it, VorAlfred, I've finally found your leopardess : Ekaterin at the end of ACC, during this so memorable vote. Richars adress her, thinking she wouldn't be allowed to answer... but she is. Exact quote is :
The look on Richars's face made Miles think of a man tormenting a leopardess suddenly discovering that the creature had no leash.

Is it Miles talking about Tien in Komarr?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you,

Yes! Now we have all the female panthera.....

So this is one more half point, since I decided to make them two separate bonuses.

No more old bonuses, I think. But of course there is your new one.

Well, last extension (more would definitely be too revealing and take the fun of it)

As for the main quote, since you said it is in Vorkosiverse, I don't see where. "Who" is probably Miles, but that's all I can say.

The bonus: my guess it is in TSK, it sounds like the non-complaining breather may be Dag. Probably TSK1 (Beguilement), before he got seriously involved with Fawn. After that he would have been more positive. What he is not complaining about: having lost the love of his life, and his hand to booth... ?

Miles in Memory.

Miles is talking to Martin, who is the brother of the soldier who is guarding Miles, and hires Martin to fly him around. Miles is bitter that his career has ended and Martin's hasn't yet started.
The Princess Bride.

\o/ Yes, that's it. Next quote is yours, Blackwing.

Unfortunately the bonus is not by Dag, and not in TSK1, voralfred.

Not by Dag?
So another shot in the dark (for the bonus; a good thing Blackwing got the main question, I had no idea...)

Cazaril; in Curse of Chalion.
Something= being somehow involved in the Daughter's design...
That's a very broad "something", that might mean surviving Roknari captivity and the ordeal of the trip home, if very early in the book; surviving the night in Fonsa's tower, if about that part of the book; surviving Martou's sword, if very late in the book... or earlier in time, surviving the siege of Gotorget, if in a reminiscence.
I'm cheating, he? :D
It just that I feel that this "breath" stuff is related to survival (as in Miles' case, in a broad sense: Memory is all about survival, if I had only thought about it; I was thinking in terms of Mirror Dance itself, or Vor Game during the "limbo" epoch, after Kyril but before Victor Rotha, but of course it was not there)

I was looking in Curse of Chalion until she said it was in Vorkosiverse. I was figuring it was during Caz's convalescence after being stabbed by Martou (though I'd been looking at the beginning when he was travelling to ask the Provincara for a place, figuring at that point he'd be in bad shape, but realizing it could be worse).

I could also see it being Arhys in Paladin of Souls. Haven't looked to see though.
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

Not Cazaril for the bonus, voralfred, and not Arhys either, SPetty (... Arhys's "gift of breath" being pretty limited to begin with in that book  )

Getting impatient already? :)
X leaned back, face growing serious; and somehow, Y was not sure how, commanding attention all around the table.
The book?
Who is X?
Who is Y?
Where are they?

A bit longer:
X leaned back, face growing serious; and somehow, Y was not sure how, commanding attention all around the table. It was as if X suddenly grew taller just sitting there.
The book?
Who is X?
Who is Y?
Where are they?
The Princess Bride.

Found it! After hunting the Vorkosiverse for any table where could be sitting Aral first, then Miles, Illyan and, in desperation, even Mark, I finally widened my investigations.

Book= Beguilement
X= Dag
Y= Fawn
Where: the Bluefield's farmhouse

"So, XXX1," said YYY. "What do you think of AAA so far?"
"It went by pretty fast," XXX2 said cautiously.
"Dear God, don't tell me you let ZZZ drive?"
"I didn't know I had a choice."

Book?
What character is XXX? (I don't insist on the exact forms of XXX1 and XXX2)
Whoe are YYY and ZZZ?
What place is AAA?

Sorry for the delay, real-life issues. New quote:
"You had a long tour. Did you see everything?"
X bared his teeth. "Everything. Even the light."
X, questioner and Book.

Maybe, but this was not one of the sentences you rewrote for the french translation. The original translator made a mess of it. Her word-for-word original translation "J'ai vu la lumière" does not give justice to the text. So this is one of the sentences which are mine. I misplaced my copy of the J'Ai Lu Cetaganda, but I remember I ended up translating by "Avez-vous tout vu?" "Oui, même le fond des choses" ("the bottom of things" which may be a bit PG-13, in that context, but, well.... )

The hint I was alluding to is, I did mention, very early on, that I corrected the french translations of three and a third books, nemely Cetaganda, Memory, Komarr and only Mountains of Mourning in the collection "Borders of Infinity".
