40,000 books ! {plus SciFi vs Romance DE duel}

7045 (Romancians) vs 6268 (SciFi)
--------------------------------
In a darkened secure chamber aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer Sesquipedalian, 7 hooded figures stood in a circle, each under a narrow spotlight. An eighth figure, wearing a starfleet uniform, strode into the circle.
Capt. Picard: "It is an honor to address the Guardian Council of the Trans-spatial Trans-temporal Science Fiction Genre. My people have heard rumors of your existence ... that you are the power behind the Q Continuum ... the Organians ... the builders of the Guardian of Forever ... the originators of The Force ... the first ones who seeded the galaxy."
{silence}
Capt. Picard: "The Romancian Star Empire has accomplished a major shift in the blance of power between the Genres in my sub-genre ... and the Guardian Council has allowed this to occur. Why ?!"
{silence}
Capt. Picard: "Why ?!!"
{silence}
Capt. Picard: {storms over to one of the hooded figures, and rips off it's hood} "Q !!!"
Q: "Mon Capitan, so good to see you again. Miss me ? Kiss kiss."
Capt. Picard: "How can you allow the Romancians to gain the upper hand over us like this ? It runs contrary to the entire accepted Star Trek continuity. Surely it is within the power of the Q to prevent this, and restore the balance ?!"
Q: "Captain, Captain, stop being so primitive. After all your adventures ... battling the Klingons ... the Borg ... surely you don't mean to tell me that the Federation will be conquered by ROMANCE. Oh, the humanity !"
Capt. Picard: {storms over and unmasks the next hooded figure, revealing ... Darth Spiel} "Oh, good Lord, not YOU !"
Darth Spiel: {heavy mechanical breathing}
Capt. Picard: "We're doomed."

Battle is joined !
Romance: 7740 {+771}
SciFi: 6901 {+638}
Note: a lot of the SciFi progress above is collateral impact from a side effort underway in the background to fix books with missing genre codes.

GENRE: SciFi vs Romance War
Deep in the gamma omicron epsilon ohmylumbego eridani 257 star cluster, a no-holds barred starship battle raged. On the one side was the Romancian Star Empire, and on the other was massed the collective might of a Science Fiction Federation main battle fleet. Phasers, disruptors, photon torpedoes, quantum torpedoes, plasma rays, orgasmatronic waves, ship on ship ramming actions, and even hand to hand combat in zero-g space suits rolled to and fro throughout the nebula. It was awful. It was terrible. It was even a little kinky.
Many medals would be awarded the following week. A star with palm leaf clusters was awarded to a handsome cleft-chinned federation space marine who somehow, in zero-g combat, singlehandedly subdued an entire squad of romancian amazons simply by lifting his visor and talking small talk on a short range suit-to-suit open channel ... no shots were fired (none that are being admitted to anyway). The transcripts of that particiular engagement were subsequently classified ultra-pink, and flagged for scrutiny by the Federation's psychological warfare division.
Elsewhere in the same battle, a klingon battle cruiser boarded a romancian troop transport. Much snarling ensued. Both ships were later found adrift, still locked together. The flight recorders of both vessels have also been classified ultra-pink (along with the debriefing reports from both crews), and are being studied by specialists in tantric xenobiology. Nearby, the Imperial Star Destroyer Sesquipedalian was found abandoned ... all that was left of the crew was the discarded blaster armor and clothing of it's storm troopers, and the bodies of fifty two female crewmen who apparently were the only ones who put up a fight. A longwinded final entry by the Ship's Captain was found, but it too has been classified ultra-pink.

*ducks*
I was assuming this was the number of books in the database, but I'm currently thinking this is a typo? This post was from December 2006 and says there are 49K books in the database?!?
Using this ibdof_maintain.php we are currently at about 45 1/2 K. Either the above post is a typo, or we have lost a lot of books since 2006 or the link does not figure the correct number of books, or the above post does not mean number of books at this site!
Re: 40,000 books ! {plus SciFi vs Romance DE duel}
I believe TB was (at the time) bragging about IBList's larger book tally ... that gap is almost gone now - and not just in the number of books, but also in data completeness (which we've made dramatic improvements in over the past year).

Ok, ok, me culpa for using 'that gap' in the context of where we are to where IBList was at the time of TB's quip.
We had to stop and fix what ... 12k+ records, while gaining very little headway gapwise ?
We'll start closing the newer gap again, once we finish the migration repairs, and get under way in ernest.

I am already under way in ernest.
I just need help. We need to enter 24 more authors and we will hit 7,000 authors. I think I can do it this weekend. I am entering anthologies for your sci-fi authors.

I think I have been working for the wrong side of the galaxy for too long. I need to return to my homeland.
