Why am I here? While I certainly do have an interest in chatting science fiction (and I've got character witnesses to testify on my behalf), I have to confess that my immediate two goals are both more selfish and more narrow than that, respectively.

I recently wrote an illustrated science fiction novel, 'The Great Rebellion', so I'm always looking for somebody to put it into the hands of a major publishing house (ideally, one that won't take 12 to 18 months to respond). So, as you can guess, social networking is one of my goals here.

The other reason I alluded to is because I'm curious about Charles Pellegrino's information and analysis of the "9/11 Truth" movement. Specifically, whether he's analyzed the findings of the group Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, the work of physicist Stephen Jones, or the numerous other findings from interested individuals which provide strong evidence that the three WTC buildings which imploded that day did so in a controlled manner.

Anyway, on to the questions!

1. Favorite Genre
Well, I prefer hard sci-fi to fantasy.

2. Favorite Author
Ray Bradbury

3. Favorite Author that's not in Favorite Genre
Jay McInerney

4. How/Why you picked your Member-Name
(These are referred to as "handles" in message board-ese) As I'm sure you can deduce, it's just my name.

5. How you found IBDoF
General web surfing.

6. Name one book you would never recommend to a friend
The 'Star Wars' books I've tried have all been horrible, despite my love for the movies.

7. Top 5 books/series
'The Dark Knight Returns' (The original only)
'1984'
'The Lathe of Heaven' (Ursula K. Gunn)
'The Stand' (Stephen King)
'Fahrenheit 451'

Greetings,

1. Favourite Genre
I read a little of almost everything.

2. Favourite Author
I like the Eastern Europeans (most of whom are not on this site, though I’ve submitted some and am waiting for them to appear…).

3. Favourite Author that's not in Favourite Genre
I’m just an occasional science-fiction reader, but the single author I keep returning to is Phillip K. Dick.

4. How/Why you picked your Member-Name
An inside joke. I use it on various sites.

5. How you found IBDoF
Quite some time ago through some research. I occasionally returned and joined when I realised most of my favourite authors were not represented here.

6. Name one book you would never recommend to a friend
I would recommend different things to different people; just because I like something doesn’t mean I feel everyone should read it. I will say Margaret Atwood’s The Robber Bride, simply because it was the most baffling recommendation anyone has made to me. (I thought she knew me; no wonder things didn’t work out.)

7. Top 5 books/series
A few in random order, from the top of my head: The Caseworker by György Konrád, The Castle by Franz Kafka, Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment, Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita, Ilf & Petrov’s The Twelve Chairs, works by N. Gogol, V. Woolf…

Hello everybody!

I am just finding my way around the forum...
I can't believe this place really exists! :D

I'll give some thought to the opening questions and come back with a proper introduction...

Until then!

Oh great! My first day at the forum and I am not even original!
Thanks for the welcome, Laurie!

Well, now here goes a proper introductory post!

1. Favorite Genre: After much thinking… I don’t really have one!

2. Favorite Author: Hummm…. This one is really hard… Only one?... Just for the sake of being consistent with some other of my answers, I’ll say JRR Tolkien, but this is open to a lot of consideration…

3. Favorite Author that's not in Favorite Genre: Well, since maybe my least favourite genre is science fiction, it might be adequate to mention here Ray Bradbury as one of my favourite authors… specially for his non-science fiction, like “Dandelion Wineâ€

Introduction

Post by d_wallace »

1.My favorite genre changes frequently. Yesterday it was westerns. Today it's Asian. Is seven books enough to make Harry Potter a genre?

2.Big 3=Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, Haruki Murakami

3.I love Cormac McCarthy in short bursts.

4.I chose the user name d_wallace because it is my name. Well, now it is. A few months ago it wasn't, but then my partner in parenting and I pretended to get married and I changed my name.

5.I found this forum through the 'Internet Book List'.

6.I would never recommend 'How to Sleep with Your Friend's Wife' to a friend.

7.Top five books/series:
1)The Beak of the Finch - Jonathan Weiner
2)Hitchhikers Guide - Douglas Adams
3)A Confederacy of Dunces - John Kennedy Toole
4)Lamb - Christopher Moore
5)To hard to decide.

Please remember to discuss Rachael Ray with Brad, Arathriel, in The Tap Room forum. He's a big fan. He especially likes the EVOO abbreviation she came up with, thinks it's cute and quirky (I'm just digging at Brad, he thinks she's the Anti-Christ of cooking). If you do find out we are a figment of your imagination, I have a wishlist also.

Welcome too, d_wallace. I am also a Douglas Adam fan, as I'm sure many on this forum are, and a Christopher Moore fan. There is a Western thread that could use some new life, too. Hope you enjoy our board.

How does one find and implement an avatar? I believe that is what the picture on the left hand side, under the name is called. Can it be any picture of a certain size?

UPDATE: Never mind. Found a really good one from the available selection. Thanks.

Hey! Wow, so long since I've been in a forum.

1. Favorite Genre
I can't really say...I'm all across the board.

2. Favorite Author
At the moment (it's mercurial) my favorite author is J.K. Rowling. She's probably everywhere.

3. Favorite Author that's not in Favorite Genre
Well, this changes everything. Vladimir Nabokov.

4. How/Why you picked your Member-Name
A strange perversion of my name.

5. How you found IBDoF
I remembered it vaguely from once upon a time and decided to find it again.

6. Name one book you would never recommend to a friend
Eragon, by Christopher Paolini. Grr. That book makes me so mad. And Wicked. I just didn't like it.

7. Top 5 books/series
Watership Down by Richard Adams
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein

That's all! :D
