It's pretty crazy about that double-jeopardy thing... from what I understand, he could basically write "I KILLED RON AND NICOLE" in big, bold letters through the whole book and nobody could do anything about it. It's a sad situation for the victims' family members.

Especially sad for their 2 kids...

I wonder what the original criminal trial jury members are thinking now. They're the ones who acquitted him for "lack of evidence".

Not that this isn't pretty damn crass and not exactly something that I'd do if I were the one maintaining my innocence amidst intense public opinion to the contrary, but, that said, I'm not really sure that a book where the author "hypothetically" confesses to a crime would be admissible as evidence during a trial in the first place, so I'm not sure if complaining about Double Jeopardy really is apropos in this case.

I've heard they've been trying for years to seize his NFL income, but have been unable to.

From what I've read, the only NFL income he currently has is his pension (in a trust fund), which along with his principal residence, is off-limits as far as the judgement goes. Any other assets he has are in others' names - his children are the "legal owners" of his other properties, and his financial assets are in trust funds under the kids' names.

As far as anyone knows, he has no "job", and thus no other income. He and his lawyers did a very good job protecting him from this situation. They probably did likewise with the book contract, but since there is a law specifically against profiting from a crime via a book or movie/television deal, he may be vulnerable this time.

But he was never actually found guilty in the criminal trial, so that wouldn't apply. Hopefully, though, he won't be able to shelter these assets, so they will be able to get the civil judgment.
