Sure, just get a pic on your camera, go to imageshack.us and load the pic onto there. Once done, copy the direct link to the image, go to post a message (on here of course) and put the link b/t the image tags. There ya go, simple yeah?

If that's too cryptic or confusing, just let me know. It should make sense if you read it while you're doing it though.

Kilgore Trout: When I saw the picture of you... there was a familiarity I couldn't place. Then, in the middle of maths, I realised... it's Father Christmas!

Oh, in order to celebrate the annual change from manked blazers to nice polo shirts... here's a bad quality, pixilated picture of me in me LG summer uniform.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g126/ ... ture87.jpg

The sleeves look uneven... cos i was in a hurry to take the picture, but they're cool really. They're made to look all puffy! And, though it's not clear, there's the Lord Grey emblem on the side (it's a Green Knight!). The sleeves and the collar also have green lines. Someday I'll make a montage of my four different seasonal uniforms, plus my PE ones (I have two). Not now... can't be bothered, but someday...

it's not that i'm computer-deficient, just that i've never posted a pic in a forum where there wasn't an "upload image" option. didn't know how that stuff was handled here.

i successfully posted a pic on a different thread, so now i just need to find one i'm willing to put up here.

That's a really nice picture, Kahrey.

I should put one of me in here one of these days.

There are many sites on which you can create your own custom "doll" to use as an avatar :) That's probably what Kahrey ended up doing.

We have a pretty nifty aerial ortophoto service in Norway. Most of my county is now covered with rather new photos (2004 over my city). To see my farm (you can even zoom in enough to discern the cows on pasture) go to norgeibilder, and I'll translate for you. You can zoom, pan etc with the buttons on top of the screen, whose symbols should be selfexplanatory. At bottom centre-right you'll see some numbers after the terms "nord" and "øst" (north and east). My farm is on this location: nord 6560785 øst 537086. Zoom down by squaredragging in approximately the right area, or use the search options on bottom far right. Highlight "Geografisk søk" (geographic search), Fylke (county, drag down menu) should be "Telemark", Kommune (commune, drag down menu) should be "Skien" and Stedsnavn (place) should be typed "kolkind". A screen appears with a clickable "kolkind". Click this, and you're there.

There is not any english text version of the page available as far as I know- so you'll have to rely on my translations on this one...

Actually I did custom make it, but I didn't intend for it to look like me, though I suppose that's okay because I liked my avatar. Hence why I made it I suppose.

I'm actually already through my first semester in college now. I have a 4.0 GPA on a 4-point scale and I'm on the President's List. Hopefully I can hold it, I'm working forty hours a week plus 15 semester hours....

I never thought I could do that. But everyone was right, college is fun.

Hey, that's great !

Yes, college was great. I would give much to be able to afford to retire, and go back to school P/T, just for the sheer enjoyment of learning, and being surrounded by sharp people who feel equally.

Take as many electives as your study time and budget can afford. I usually managed to stuff my class load up to around 19-21 credits before my brain started complaining too strenuously. If I made one mistake it was minoring in math ... for the same study effort I invested in that damn minor (more than my BS degree in computers), I'm sure I could have completed a 2nd BA in literature, art history, or philosophy.

Expose yourself to as many subjects as you can, and then follow where your interest and success lead you. :)

Okie dokie... so you all know (well, now you do...) that Hunter, in his year of inactivity, has got himself a girlfriend!

And... *drumroll* here she is...

Image

BTW, Hunter told me to put this up because he knew Megan'd hit him if he put it up himself but he thought (and I agree) that she was too pretty not to be on the IBDoF. So... there! You happy, Mr Dimples?

Well, that's me. This picture was taken while I was giving a talk at a conference in Japan.
Had I known that would be the single (to my knowledge) picture of me on the web, I would have spent more time shaving that morning...

Mostly, integrable dynamical systems, that is, systems described by either differential equations ("continuous time) or difference equations ("discrete time"), about which you can give a more or less accurate prediction even in the long run.
In practice, most dynamical systems are subject to the "butterfly efffect", that is, any extremely small differences in the initial conditions will in a rather short time, lead to completely different results. Weather, for instance (which is why weather prediction is so hard).
So integrable systems are rare and, in fact, do not really describe the physical world. But they are fun. I've been working with them for almost 30 years. The catch phrase is "solitons", and one of the best-known example is (supposedly) waves in a shallow (and very regular) channel.

Hehe, in celebration of getting a working scanner, I went and scanned in this picture (finally) of me and Kvetch!
Image

I'm the titchy girl (duh...) and Kvetch's the very tall one with glasses. The boy on my right is my bro and the boy on my left is Kvetch's (age-wise, their birthdays are a day apart. Interesting tit-bit of info, there...). We were at Bletchley Park (You know, the enigma and whatnot...), only a few miles away from where I live and also part of my route to and from school. In the background you can see Melrose place (the tall block of flats) and my school, too 9it's the small building on Kvetch's side that, weirdly, looks like there's a twig coming out of it...
