How 'bout it, kilty?
OK - I like the numbers - we can work with those - now let's come up with a suitable name perhaps:
Vlad's Minion
Vampire in Training
...

So, Vampire could be from 1431 posts to 1476 posts.

Or we could truly honor Vlad the Impaler and re-name the ranking: Anal Intruder :P

I sorta like Vampire in Training but Vlad's Minion has a nice ring to it, too.

We need some more rankings ... I'm rapidly approaching Monolith Dancer (2001), and there's only 1 more rank after that until I fall off the chart at 3000.

Ideas anyone ?

I've only got one so far ...

2010 = Star Child

I took the liberty of creating the official IBDOF "Dunce Cap", since it's post-count independant. :deviate:

If anyone wants to search out a small gif to go with it, feel free to do so. I've got this picture in my head of a small pouting child fuming away in a corner, perched atop a stool, with a tall fugly pointy hat on their head :deviate:

How about Ulysses--in reference to James Joyce's Ulysses, which was set on June 16, 1904...?

You could have 1904 start the ranking and end it with...hmmm, well it was first published in 1922 and in the US in 1934 and the UK in 1936...So I guess any of those numbers could do...

How 'bout something referring to The Lord of the Rings...? 1954?

I'll try to think of some possible rankings over 2000...

How about Shakespeare (or Bard?) for posts 1564-1616?

How bout Lucifer for posts 1669-1674? The first edition of Milton's Paradise Lose came out in 1669 and the second revised edition in 1674...

We could even have a ranking named Pilgrim in reference to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales... 1300...something?

The numerical ratings are firmly in Kilt's turf ... the most I'd be willing to do is create the occasional special title.

My bad - I thought you were suggesting them to me, rather than kilt.

I get too conversational in my posting habits sometimes, and lose track of who's replying to whom

So, I'll go slink off, as well...

Kilt (not Brad),

RAH places Methuselah's Children near the end of his Future History, from 2136 to 2210. So how about using one of the following: Methuselah, Methuselah Child, Lazarus Long, Woodrow Wilson Smith, Capt. Aaron Sheffield or Immortal Being.

Cool - I like the idea of
2136 - Methuselah's Child
2210 - Living Long

What do you guys think?

I like the idea of some LOTR referrances - prefferably in the +2000 range [anywhere from there on up...]

Let's figure out some numbers for LOTR that can hit those kinds of numbers ... and then they'll naturally suggest the titles themselves...

Ok, here's what I've got so far.

Changes to existing ranks:
1) Master Scribe >>> "Scribe Adept"
2) Master Scholar >>> "Scholar Adept"

Somehow, the word "Master" just didn't seem to fit in the middle rankings. The word, to me, has always meant something we strive for, rather than actually attain. The word "Adept" seems to fit better in this case, since it's synonymous with be highly competant at something.

New ranks:
3) "Shakespearean Groupie" (1,564 posts).
4) "Future Historian" (2,136 posts).

How's that look ?

[EDIT: #4 may need some work, since opinions were still evolving as I added it. Kilty - go ahead and tweak it to your satisfaction]

Ok, ok, since I made some many goofs today, I've donned the official dunce cap for a bit, as penance. :wall:

p.s. History buffs are encouraged to look up information on the "Flagellants", who used to practice self-flagellation in order to purify themselves. Gee, and people thought the monks in "MP & The Holy Grail" who beat themselves on the heads with those wooden planks were just a myth :P

If we simply change this for Methuselah's Child - that would probably work [for me at least].

Lets see if our resident LOTR experts [That's Brad not kilt] can come up with something higher up in the numbers...

Well, if this is helpful, the Lord of the Rings took place from 3001 Third Age (Bilbo's farewell feast) to 3021 TA when Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf and etc. depart from the Gray Havens...

Sauron forged the One Ring in 1600--second age,

3319--fall of Numenor, the year following: formation of Realms in Exile

hmmm... just thinking outloud... :)

Ok, "Methuselah's Child" has replaced "Future Historian". :worship:

As for some JRRT rankings, lemme sleep on that one ... i'll flip around through the Silmarillion, and the appendices in RotK, for a few suitable dates in the 2-3k range.

Behold the awesome glory of The Dunce Cap

Ok, 3 hrs perched in the corner with the dunce cap was enough for me.

I also rattled of a quick 50 or so book ratings ... that should be enough penance.

Gee, I missed out on a decent chunk of my stint in the "Ministry of Truth" wearing that thing :(

Although their brief appearance in MP&tHG is decidedly tongue in cheek, the motif itself is based on historical fact. The funniest humor is always closely based on actual reality ... the humor in Monty Python is sometimes rather dense & esoteric, and the more you know, the more references you 'get'.

Here's a link explaining a little about the history of Christian Self-Flaggelation Sects ...

I’m not the resident LOTR lore master.
But here are two suggestions, the first and more obvious.

The reign of King Elessar is from 3019 to 3141, the rank could be Elf-stone, Keeper of the Elf-stone or Bearer of the Elf-stone

The second and I sometime think more important is in the year 2670 Tobold planted the first pipe-weed in the South-farthing of the Shire. Good rank would be Grower of the Weed, Provider of the Smoke, or I think better and nobler “Cultivator of Galenasâ€
