I am the exact same way! Not even teaching myself something new, but just being given new information about anything. Today I learned that the Frank E. Campbell Burial and Cremation Company opened in New York in 1898 and changed the way people thought about and handled funerals.

Today I learned what ISBN is--- Oh, how amazing Wikipedia is for always being there to tell me little (usually) useless facts that I wanted to know.

Today I learned that a group of 80 people, all sobbing together while sharing a common experience, can be extremely cathartic and exhausting at the same time (long story).

Today, I learned it is a good thing to help mates out. Two different mates gave me bottles of Canadian Club whiskey today because of stuff I am doing for them! Horrah. My budget is secure until next pay-day!

ECM, I am so glad you've discovered Pendulum! They're pretty mainstream at this stage, but they're an excellent jumping-off point into the drum n' bass genre if you haven't explored it before...

You might also want to check out:

Talvin Singh
Concord Dawn
Aphrodite
Roni Size
Salmonella Dub
Goldie
Photek
Shy FX
Vortex Involute

:)

Today I learned why most people I know leave Taiwan at this time of year - I've almost forgotten what the sun looks like! Blade Runner is all well and good as an artsy dystopian depiction of the future - but I don't want to actually LIVE in it, thank you very much...

Drum'n'bass is great stuff! Concord Dawn got me into it about a year and a half ago through their cover of Slayer's Reigning Blood. I've just been listening to a lot of d'n'b through streaming radio and Hold Your Colour seems to be mixed and sampled in everywhere but there was never any track lists or anything, just the name of the dj and the mix. So it was good to finally find who produced that track.

Have you heard of Shapeshifter? And if you like Salmonella Dub, their frontman, Tiki, has done a solo album which sounds pretty sweet.

Oh yeah, and this weekend I learned that it feels great to get a promotion! Though it will feel even better next payweek.

Today I learned that you get a rather severe stomach ache if you eat only two oatmeal bars and a big slab of bread pudding for supper instead of something nourishing.

But they did taste soooo good.

Today I learned that 50 cent toy vending machine like things also hand out sticky toy fetuses. I didn't know that a fetus would be an ideal child's toy. But society seems to get weirder and weirder every day.

Today I learned I can understand every word of a sentence and still not understand it. What do you mean, a toy vending machine handing out toy fetuses????? :? :? :?
Sticky ones? What are they made of? Plastic with glue on it? :? :? :?
What kind of a toy is that? Only totally sick people could come up with such an idea!

What I think she means (if I'm not sorely mistaken) are sticky globs that have a long tail on them - my son has several that are shaped like hands or feet... they stick to walls, etc. They're supposed to be fun to play with. They just like like packaged snot to me... I don't think they're actually meant to represent fetuses.

In France I have seen sticky characters (about two inches long for half that width) that can, for instance, climb down walls, the limbs above losing their grip, then sticking below the others after the body rotates, until the ones that are now above lose their grip, and so on. They are extremely simplified, just a body, a vague head, and four outstreched limbs (and no tail!), but the general proportions are that of an adult, not a child and certainly not a fetus. Watching them climbing down a window can barely be considered fun (I find it boring after a few times), but at least they are not disgusting!

exactly. the one my friend got out of the machine looked extremely fetus like, not those hands or feet but definetly an alien baby at least. and it was this creepy pinkish skin color. and the location of the string looked like an embilical cord.

sorry for the mayhem/confusion over the fetuses. lol.

Today I learned what a trade cover was. And that if you take time to clean something... you might find things you didn't know you had.

Today I learned that a minor delay of the train I ride home from work can turn into something really bad.

A train in front of mine broke down leaving the station so my train went further down the line bypassing the switch that we normally turn at to get on the line we ride home. We then backed down the line to another switch that put us on a line that eventually led to line we take home. This put the engine in the rear and the car that I ride on was now the front car. This is where it gets really bad. We were cruising down the track when I hear the horn start blaring then I feel a thud and something bang on the bottom of the train under my feet. We hit and killed some guy who, for some reason, was walking on the tracks. Needless to say I got home late. I just don't understand why people wander out on the tracks.

Today I learned that my reading of the logic book has helped me — I answered an automated telephone survey on the Presidential race. It offered an "Undecided" choice for most questions, which I chose instead of the missing "None of the above" for all the fuzzy questions with hidden assumptions, emotional wording, and undefined terms. I did miss the first of these but the Logic book immediately brought me up short and I declined all the others.

Today I learned that no matter how much you convince yourself that you can sleep in on a Saturday morning, your body (or husband) just won't let you! :)

The other half had declared loud and clear that today would be a sleeping in type of day. Unfortunately, the 1100 AM rising that we both wanted turned out to be much earlier.
