Yesterday I learned that pinching/scraping off the skin of the second joint on the middle finger of the right hand is not to be taken lightly, even though the area affected is quite small. "Let it rest, no milking for you for 14 days, don't put any strain on the sutures. If it reopens, it will take weeks and weeks to grow!". Okay, master doctor. You know best. I know I'm gonna fret at being put out of use.
Today I've repeatedly learned that a stiff middle finger often causes some merriment with passersby...

On a side note, I am constantly impressed with some of our members that seem to have as good (and often better) a grasp on the English language than I do ... and they are not native English speakers and I am!!

Kudos to KeE, EPS and most especially, VorAlfred!!

Thank you, Sir, you are most kind.

 I'll have to restrain the tip of my nose for the rest of the day (between thumb and index finger).

P.S. There's a Dutch (also Flemish) saying that, allegedly, your nose curls up whenever you receive high praise. Saying "Je doet mijn neus krullen" (You make my nose curl up) means something like "Aw shucks, you're making me blush".

Today I learned that not getting a job after an interview sucks.

I had the job but I don't turn 18 until I go off to college and they needed someone 18 and older. BUT, they say that they will hire me next summer.

When I played tennis (attempted to, anyway), I used a thick felt-tipped marker (a Sharpie?) to paint red polka-dots on my six tennis balls.

Today I learned why I never lost any.

Other players thought my balls had a diseased aspect, like an infectious skin rash or something.

The tennis club management ruled it unsightly and insisted I cease the practice or go find another club.

Today I learned just how emotionally draining it can be when one of your children gets hurt. Yesterday I came home from work to find my wife sitting on the front steps to our house holding my son, who will be 4 next week, in her arms in a state of hysteria waiting for an ambulance to arrive. He was standing on the sidewalk when my 5 year old daughter and her friends ran by, one of them apparently ran into him and knocked him down. His head hit the cement and we believe he was knocked unconscious. My wife ran over and picked him up but he was completely limp in her arms. He then started to throw up and wouldn't answer her. My wife called 911 right before I pulled up. When I got there he was extremely pale and he looked completely out of it. He continued to throw up in the ambulance and in the emergency room. They gave him a CT scan which thankfully was negative for Intracranial bleeding. That was a relief but he was still not talking at all. After hours of observation in the ER they finally admitted him and we took him up to a room in the pediatric ward. Finally around midnight he spoke to me. My wife went home to get a change of clothes since she still had vomit on her shirt; during that time he seemed to be feeling better and wanted something to eat. My wife returned and I went home around 2 am so I could be there in the morning to get my daughter from our neighbors and get her ready for school. During the night and into the morning he got sick several more times. He was finally released from the hospital around 8 pm tonight. He's doing a lot better and seems to be himself again. Now we just have to watch him and keep him from exerting himself for a while. I think this was easily the worst 24+ hours of my life, I was so scared. I'm feeling all choked up again just thinking about it.

You may also want to dim the indoor lights and the TV screen, avoid flickering images, and, when outdoors, make him wear a baseball cap (with its bill facing forwards, of course) and sunglasses.
The Wikipedia article about concussion explains why and for how long.

Today I, not learned but realized, that we are proud owners of two houses. As today we take possession of a 2nd house we've been on the road to buying, it's exciting and very scary as now we have 2 house payments and also need to have enough money to completely remodel our "new" house. YIKES!!!

Congrats!

You're a step ahead of us.

We own one that we rent out and live in one we are renting.

It is kinda weird.

Yesterday actually, I learned there was a very senseless/random murder in the town we have our Rally at every year and also the town my husband grew up. Both small towns and both very random, I just can't comprehend why this happened and why a 17 year old would want to do such random acts of violence.

I empathize. We had a murder in our quiet, little community recently. None of the "why's" still make sense to me.
