My uncle had that happen. I've never quite understood that logic.

Today I learned that I won't have to plan a vacation to see my brother's family -- because they're already intending to come back home for a visit.

Today I learned (more like remembered) that I have a full day field trip tomorrow which will be spent outside doing water quality testing. So I will be able to miss an entire day of school, wake up late, and be outside the whole day. A great (sort of) surprise.

IMO this is done primarily so the middle cheese making that decision can
a] Look better to the big cheese
b] Hope like hell this is good enough to save their own pathetic ass

CAVEAT: I am pretty damn sour on the whole corporate structure of tossing hard-working worker bees to the curb so that the leeches at the top can still get their multi-million dollar bonuses...

I agree with this too, the same thing happened to my husband in January, except he's still trying to find something and it's a real real bad time to try and find work. His boss though is the one who's really having a bad time, corporate is p***ed about how bad the department is doing now that he's gone and I guess there's talk that his former boss will be out soon anyway, but it doesn't change the fact that he was canned to save his bosses job in the first place. Corporations suck that way!

Yesterday my family and I drove out to Santa Monica and I learned that It's a bad idea to drive on the 10 through Los Angeles on a Saturday. Talk about horrible traffic.

Today I realized just how ridiculous I am. (Remember, I haven't been on IBDOF for a while).

So I'm browsing the Reading Room with no particular purpose when I stumble upon 'Darb'. Now who is this Darb person and who does he think he is stealing Brad's avatar? Being as gullible and irritable as I am, I proceed to look further into this Darb character. Looking closer I realize that this person has an insane number of posts. Okay, who is this person and why haven't I seen them before? So, this is where I figure it out and laugh at myself for being a blonde (which I am, of course), right? No, I continue. I proceed to the handy dandy Statistics area of the site to 'Top Posters'. Sure enough, at the top of the list is this Darb fellow. My brow scrunches up in confusion. One second passes, and then another. And then I finally figure it out.

Congrats Moonwolf, you've just won Blonde of the year.

lol. As my brother likes to say, I'm the dumbest smart person and the smartest dumb blonde you'll ever meet.

Last night I learned that jello shots are very dangerous, especially when you've already had quite a bit of beer. I also learned that I'm not always as funny as I think I am when I'm drunk.

By the end of the month I'll be moving and my old house will have to be cleared. The last two weeks we've been sorting what to pack and what to throw away. Then actually packing or throwing away. And we're far from finished.

I've learned that, emptying a large house, is when you realize how awfully much junk a couple and two growing sons (now 34 and 31 years old) can collect during almost 30 years. It's flabbergasting!

I bought the movie "Hancock" on DVD. At first I thought the title lacked the letter g and meant something like "flaccid penis", though that's not why I bought the DVD.

Fortunately about halfway through the movie I learned that "a John Hancock" is an idiomatic expression with a particular meaning and a historical background.

My understanding was highlighted by the fact that I googled for thorough information about the expression and that I was watching the movie on the fourth of July.

Coincidence?
(from the Wikipedia) ... large, flamboyant signature on the Declaration, so much so that "John Hancock" became, in the United States, an informal synonym for signature.

Today I learned that if the hospital had done tests a month and a half ago my friend might still be alive, but since he didn't have insurance the hospital refused to do the tests, when he finally did get them done and found out he had lung cancer he was dead 4 days later after his first chemo treatment, aint life a bitch.

Whoa that is rough. Regarding health care in the US (as I am trying to follow the debate) is this the issue with insurance the thing which is really dogging the American health system? The fact that your friend was refused treatment because he lacked insurance is royally f*&#ed. Your country spends significantly more than any other country in the world on health yet your friend was denied treatment until too late because of no insurance... What are you paying taxes for?

Today I learned more in one hour with a new lecturer than I have in the whole of this semester with the previous one. I hate engineering.

I couldn't agree with you more ECM, he was only 47 years old and had 2 kids (13 & 10) all this could have turned out much better, I've never lost a friend before and am trying to figure out how to get over the sadness. It doesn't help that it was so sudden, one week after we found out he was even sick and then BOOM gone.

This is really terrible, SHG, but if this could be a consolation, if your friend died 4 days after his first chemo, chances are that tests just a month and a half ago would not have changed much to his life expectancy. Two years ago, even last year, maybe, but one month and a half? He was certainly already beyond any hope of a cure, even a respite of more than just a few more weeks, at most.
