Jeslek benefits whether Cerryl succeeds or fails. That's the motive behind every challenge. One obstacle is set against another. Cerryl is Jeslek's stalking horse more than Jeslek was ever his Rabbi. Sterol presents him as Jeslek's foil. So when the opportunity presents, Jeslek assigns him high-risk, high-reward (but not essential) tasks designed to eliminate Cerryl or the target. Jeslek does trust Cerryl with his life once or twice, although in each situation, they succeed or fail together. There is a little bit of mutual respect, more than between Cerryl and Sterol, because they have to work together - sometimes on the battlefield.

I like your viewpoint, and I'd like to support it. I think Jeslek views Cerryl as a nuisance and a tool, though. He is cognizant of a fair amount of Council politics, but holds them in contempt. He will use anyone and anything to support his power and achieve his aims. As Cerryl repeatedly does that, Jeslek sometimes has to yield his (grudging) support. Nothing I've read suggests the intentional favor of Jeslek, though, covert or otherwise. I think he does recognize Cerryl's shared belief in Fairhaven; that's what allows them to coexist. Most of the time, until that final campaign - like most everyone else - Cerryl is beneath his notice.

Respect is earned, and I respect the other posters in this thread because they've demonstrated through their posts to be worthy of my respect. Mr. Modesitt has my highest respect because of the quality of thought that he has shown through his works, his posts here and on his blog. His works have enriched my life and I am very greatful for that fact. He's the only author that I will purchase the hardcover editions of.

You are so set on defending a scenario that only exists in your head. You are never going to convince me that you are right, and so far you've failed to convince anyone else in this thread. Can't you accept that people have differing opinions or are you one of those people how has to be right all the time? I think it's your insistance that you have some special insight on Mr. Modesitt's work that keeps me from considering your position.

I don't see Batman as a psychopath. Psychopaths don't care about anyone else but themselves unless that person is useful to them. Superman is boring to you, but not to myself. There are so many philosophical issues surrounding him. I even liked the latest reboot.

Now as for the fan-fiction, by doing so you violate the spirit of Mr. Modesitt's request while following the rule. Do you know what George R. R. Martin thinks of your fan-fiction? Here' the first google hit

Now, I won't say I hate all fan-fiction. In fact, there's an unofficial fan fiction series surrounding the Supreme Commander video game that I liked, but it's the exception, not the rule. The game is also ten years old, the company that produced it is defunct. They never objected to it because it never contradicted the story line of the three games it encompassed. For the most part, I find most fan-fiction crap. From my perspective, those who endulge in such efforts are trying to trying to take ownership of other another persons work. If they put that much effort into creating their own work, we might have more authors and more stories that are actually worth reading.

I'm not trying to stamp out fun, I'm just rejecting your fan-fiction based arguement. Deal with it. If you want to earn my respect, let this thread die.
I have played both The Supreme Commander & The Supreme Commander 2. enjoyed to play these games long back in 2010-2011, love this fiction game. To be honest nowadays I am more a casino bonus and free spins hunter than a regular gamer.
