This is a mildly interesting look into the mind of a 15 year old Rainman-like, savant type character. It is written in the first person and the prose is like this. And we get an idea of how his mind works because it is a mind unlike ours. And he is a math genius with an incredible memory and he is afraid of the colour yellow, and he does not like to be touched because he will scream or make groaning or even hit people.

And the premise of the book is that the neighbor's dog is murdered and Christopher, the narrator, decides to do an investigation. Because that is what a detective like Sherlock Holmes would do. And Sherlock never did say in any of the books, 'Elementary my Dear Watson'. And the investigation leads to some surprises that turn his very ordered, structured world upside down. And it is mildly funny and mildly heartwarming.
And it is a quick and easy read.
And it is highly over-rated.

I would disagree that it is highly overrated. I think there has been a lot of hype about it--but the book itself is solid, well plotted, and definitely told from an unusual and refreshing point of view.
