Airs Above the Ground


Neat story that includes Lippazaner horses. Read as a middle schooler and again as a married adult. Book seemed different the second time around, I focused more on the people and less on the horses. But it works for both ages and I still recommend it.

I agree with the new posting guidelines — as I've posted elsewhere, BUT — do we need a place for Appreciation Notes?

I believe that LynS has said about all that there is to say about Airs Above the Ground, a book I love, and reread about once a year. She could have added "There are some very interesting characters here." And non Mary Stewart fans can use this information; those of us who love Mary Stewart take this as a given. Otherwise, the short note is about as full a review as the book can stand; anything else is a blurb or is apt to include too much in the way of spoilers.

BTW, my daughter and I made a special effort to see the Lippenzaners when they appeared in NYC during the time that I lived there — purely because we had become interested through this book.

I'm not sure I grasp what you're trying to say ... by appreciation notes are you referring to complimenting reviewers for their reviews, or are you referring to reviews as appreciation notes of the books being reviewed ?

Ok, since you seconded that, we can waive it for this book ... but LynS has been on a reviewing roll lately (for which we're grateful), but most of those reviews are falling well short of our recommended length guidelines.

What (I think) is meant is is a suggestion that we have some sort of method for leaving comments about a book (along the line of LynS') that do not come up to the length requirement of reviews or the evidentary standard ('I thought this was a good book' or 'don't read this until you read it's prequel, or it will be spoilt').
I don't know if it is implementable, or how we would police it for inappropriate material, but it might be a good idea - there are times when I want to leave a comment about a book to help other readers, without resorting to <i>IBDoF Note</i> for factual statements, or reviews for opinions (which are a drag to write if you want to say one line)

That is what I was trying to say. You're very good at reading my mind. I don't know how you administrators manage things like this, so I never know what will work. I just throw out ideas that occur to me in the hope that they will be useful.

I don't think I count as an administator, but I've got access to the places to put it on the to do list, and even if two people don't consitute quorum, I think I'll put it on. Kilt can always ignore it.

Please do not take my shortness as rudeness. I think I just got so excited about sharing thoughts about books that I wrote as Sue aptly put it "appreciations" (By the way, thanks for not taking me to task for mispelling Lippenzaners). I do promise to enhance my short postings and further postings will follow the 150 word guideline. I hope, as I wrote to Brad, to write more this weekend.
