Happiness is a pipe dream.

By the way, one of my favorite sayings is:
Depression is simply anger without enthusiasm.
In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

Which is why I like it in my music. Music is a nice escape, just like books are a nice escape at times.

See, I'm the opposite. Depressing songs comfort me. They are familiar.

Actually, it isn't just depressing songs. It is songs with any emotion that is beyond mundane.

Anyone care to interpret this for me?

Some of it is obvious but there are a lot of metaphors and/similes that I don't get (I also can never remember the difference between the two).

By the way, this is a really odd band. This song is an epic metal song but so far everything else I've heard is more like indie pop/rock. For some reason I'm reminded of Hunter and MF when I hear their other stuff.

While disappointing, I can at least enjoy the one metal song they did ... and here it is:

Coheed and Cambria
"Welcome Home"

You could have been all I wanted,
But you weren't honest,
Now get in the ground,
You choked off the surest of favors,
But if you really loved me,
You would have endured my reign...

Well if you're just, as I presumed,
A whore in sheep's clothing,
Fucking up all I do...

And if so here we stop,
Then never, again will you see,
This in your life...

Hang on to the glory at my right hand,
Here lay to rest is a love ever long,
With truth on the shores of confession,
You seem to take premise, to all of these souls...

You stormed off to scar the armada,
Like Jesus played letter,
I'll drill through your hands,
The stone for the curse you have blamed me...

With love and devotion I'll die as you sleep,
But you could just rat me out,
To never mis-warn her happy will I become,
Be true that this is no option,
So rinse it, condemn you demon raiding in love...

Hang on to the glory at my right hand,
Here lay to rest is a love ever long,
With truth on the shores of confession,
You seem to take premise to all of these songs...

One last kiss for you,
One more wish to you,
Please make up your mind girl,
I'd do anything for you,
One last kiss for you,
One more wish to you,
Please make up your mind girl,
Before I hope you die...

Nile - Invocation to Seditious Heresy

[JON:]
And Here I Stand
I who would be master of the Black Earth
Have summoned you here secretly
You who are faithful to me
To share in the Black Kingdom that shall be
Tonight we shall witness
The breaking of the chains which Enslave us
And the birth of a Dark Empire

[DALLAS:]
Who am I to know what powers lurk and and Dream
in these murky Tombs
[KARL:]
They hold secrets forgotten for three thousand years
But I shall Learn, They shall teach me

[JON:]
See how they sleep,
[KARL:]
staring through their Carven Masks
[Jon]
Priests,
[Dallas:]
Monks,
[KARL:]
Acolytes
Kheri Heb Rekbi Khet

[Dallas :]
The Mummified Remains of the Sacrificial Whores
of The Cannibalistic Serpent Cults of Thirty Centuries
[Karl]
With Black Incantation and Foul Necromantic Art
[Dallas]
Propitiated with the Blood of the Living

[Jon]
We will waken them from their long Slumber
[KARL:]
The Ancients knew, Nay, Commanded the Words of Power
[DALLAS:]
And shall teach them to Me
I shall restore them to Life

[Dallas]
To Labour for my own Dark Imperial Desires
[Jon]
I will Waken Them Will Rouse Them
Will learn their forgotten Wisdom
[KARL:]
The knowledge locked in those withered Skulls
[JON:]
By the Lore of The Dead
[KARL:]
We shall Enslave the Living
[JON and DALLAS:]
Pharaohs and Priests long Forgotten
[DALLAS:]
Shall be our Warriors and Slaves
Who will Dare to Oppose Us
Out of the Dust shall Avaris Rise
The penis mighter than the sword.

This song is very cool; off their new album

Listen to the track here!

It slays! It isn't too heavy either, so you better listen!!

Opeth - Reverie/Harlequin Forest

Into the trees
Past meadow grounds
And further away from my home
Baying behind me
I hear the hounds
Flock's chasing to find me alone

A trail of sickness
Leading to me
If I am haunted
Then you will see

Searching the darkness
And emptiness
I'm hiding away from the sun
Will never rest
Will never be at ease
All my matter's expired so I run

There falls another
Vapor hands released the blade
Insane regrets at the drop
Instruments of death before me

Lose all to save a little
At your peril it's justified
And dismiss your demons
As death becomes a jest
You are the laughing stock
Of the absinthe-minded
Confession stuck in your mouth
And long-gone fevers reappear

Nocturnally helpess
And weak in the light
Depending on a prayer
Pacing deserted roads to find
A seed of hope

They are the trees
Rotten pulp inside and never well
Roots sucking, thieving from my source
Tired boughs reaching for the light

It is all false pretension
Harlequin forest
Awaiting redemption for a lifetime
As they die alone
With no one by their side
Are they forgiven?

Stark determination
Poisoning the soul
Unfettered beast inside
Chiming sovereign control

And now the woods are burning
Tearing life-crops asunder
Useless blackened remains
Still pure smoldering

Hell, I am going to post lots of their tracks!!
Again, from here

Baying of the Hounds

I hear the baying of the hounds
In the distance. I hear them devouring
Pest-ridden jackals of the earth
Diabolical beasts and roaming the forests
In wait and constant protectors
Calling you to sit by his side
Your self-loathing image in his flesh
A revelation upon which you linger

His words are flies
Swarming towards the true insects
Feasting on buried dreams
And spreading decay upon your skin
His eyes spew forth a darkness
That cut through and paralyze
Casts light upon your secrets
Forced to confront your enemies

His mouth is a vortex
Sucking you into it's pandemonium
Fools you with a helping hand of ashes
Reached out in false dismay
His body is a country
The cities lay dead beyond despair

Everything you believed is a lie
Everyone you loved is a death-burden
So you take comfort in him
And you are receptive to stark wishes
No longer struggling to declare your stand
You would inflict no harm to others
They are unaware and in a loop of futile events
You are everything, they are nothing

Drown in the deep mire
With past desires
Beneath the mire
Drown desire now with you

Lined up verses on dead skin
"The tainted lips of a stranger
Resting upon hers"

And I embrace bereavement
Everything beloved is shattered anyway
I would devote myself to anyone
I would accept any flaws

I am too weak to resist
Tension vibrating with horror
Finding the outcast in my eyes
Pushing nerves on a puppet
Endless poison in my veins
Clean intent now tainted with death

And so, cold touch now inhumane
Every waking hour
Awaiting a reverie to unfold
Louder by the minute
The baying of the hounds
Calling me back to my home
The penis mighter than the sword.

Irregardless of genre, the fact that these tracks are 10 minutes or so long exclude them. Mix in that they are Opeth, which is a genre in itself, kinda progressive death metal, but not really; even though in terms of metal, it is not very heavy or brutal at all, you won't find them on TotP.

Hehehe, there are reasons why pop songs are 3 minutes long and are all verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-chorus.

If I ever write a song it'll be chorus-bridge-bridge-verse-bridge-verse-chorus-bridge.

Does bridge mean instrumental?

The bridge of a song can be either an instrumental or like a verse but that contrasts with the rest of the song. Or it is like a final section of the song. The are different types. But anyway, you can't have a song like chorus-bridge-bridge-verse-bridge-verse-chorus-bridge because the bridge is no longer a bridge, but another verse or an instrumental section, the chorus also isn't really a chorus anymore, and the verses are outnumbered by bridging sections. :P

So it's something that only appears once or twice, and is totally different from the rest of the song? :?

Yup.

A guitar solo is a bridge.

A bridge functions to link to another part of the song.

One Year of Love-John Deacon

Just one year of love
Is better than a lifetime alone
One sentimental moment in your arms
Is like a shooting star right through my heart
It’s always a rainy day without you
I’m a prisoner of love inside you -
I’m falling apart all around you -
My heart cries out to your heart
I’m lonely but you can save me
My hand reaches for to your hand
I’m cold but you light the fire in me
My lips search for your lips
I’m hungry for your touch
There’s so much left unspoken
And all I can do is surrender
To the moment just surrender

And no one ever told me that love would hurt so much
Oooh yes it hurts
And pain is so close to pleasure
And all I can do is surrender to your love
Just surrender to your love
Just one year of love
Is better than a lifetime alone
One sentimental moment in your arms
Is like a shooting star right through my heart
It’s always a rainy day without you
I’m a prisoner of love inside you
I’m falling apart all around you
And all I can do is surrender

Blue Moon

Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold
Blue Moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked the Moon had turned to gold
Blue moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Personally, I'm quite fond of the meaning and romance to the song.

GAH! *Brain explode-y!!!!*

Regardless, there is not such thing as Irregardless!

Actually it's not that big of a deal. I just used to make that mistake, too.

Haha!

By the way, may I take this opportunity to throw a shout-out for my favorite band? It's called Murder by Death, and they have three albums so far ("In Bocca al Lupo," "Like the Exorcist but more Breakdancing," and "Who Will Survive and What Will be Left of Them?") and all three are really good, both instrumentally and lyrically. I'm not even going to try fitting them into a genre, but I've found almost anybody can glean (gleen?) something from them. They are a really enjoyable band.

I too find irregardless a not unbad usage.

Not that people actually regard "irregardless" as meaning "regarding."
Ever since I started equating correlation with causality, violent crime has fallen 58%.

Actually, it's meaning is closer to "without regard" or "ignoring" ... even though it's still considered poor grammar.
