She looked at him more closely. "You all right, xxx? You look really tired. And all pale. You haven't been sick or something, have you?"
He supposed three months of yyy qualified as about as sick as one could get. "Well, yes. Or something. But I'm recovering."
Book? Memory
Who is "she"? Harra Csurik
Who is xxx? (it's not a name in the quote, but it does refer to the second character.) Miles (m'lord)
What is yyy? death

"...thirty-eight, thirty-nine, forty thousand," XXX counted.
YYY scratched his head. "Y'know, there's something backwards about this..."
Book ?
XXX ?
YYY ?

Bonus: what is "backwards" about "this" ?

Book ? The Warrior's Apprentice
XXX ? Miles
YYY ? Ivan

Bonus: what is "backwards" about "this" ? Miles and Ivan have tied up Tav Calhoun and are stuffing money into his shirt as repayment for the ship Miles stole and took to Tau Verde.

Correct !
The newt quote and one and a half :sherlock:
Technically, Miles did not steal the ship, he did buy it on credit, guaranteed on "real estate". But since that was radioactive land, the guarantee was a sham, so yes, in a sense, he had stolen it.

BTW, how do you feel about the last two Penric books? Please give your opinion on the thread

"XXX YYY?"
he keyed the intercom to her cabin.
"I believe I have something for you here."
Book?
Who/What is XXX?
Who/What is YYY?
Who is speaking?
What do they have?

A little hint, maybe ?

"collateral" ! That was the word I was looking for. Miles did offer land as collateral for the ship, so it was technically not a theft. But that land was the one the Cetas had nuked before leaving Barrayar and it still glowed in the night....

"XXX YYY?" he keyed the intercom to her cabin. "I believe I have something for you here."
She rubbed sleep from her face, framed in the intercom screen. "Already? What time-oh. I must have been tireder than I realized. I'll be right up, ZZZ AAA."
Book?
Who/What is XXX?
Who/What is YYY?
Who/What is ZZZ AAA? (not necessarily a given name)
Who is speaking?
What do they have?

It is indeed in the Vorkoverse. :-)

BBB stretched, and began an automatic series of isometrics in his chair. It had been a long and uneventful watch. He would have been hungry, but what he contemplated now through the viewscreen subdued his appetite.

Book?
Who/What is XXX?
Who/What is YYY?
Who/What is ZZZ AAA? (not necessarily a given name)

BBB and ZZZ AAA are the same. Not that that clarifies anything. Maybe you should just disregard this sentence...
It is indeed in the Vorkoverse. :-)

Shards of Honor is a single book, but multiple stories. At least in *my* copy.

If Reede can give a broad description of events, then I would award the point.

Well, Shards of Honor is not so many stories. There is a main story involving Cordelia and Aral, with several events. An then there is "Aftermaths", which involves totally different characters, with only a rather tiny link. As I understood it, it was quite clear that by
end of Shards of Honor
Reede K. did mean "Aftermaths", which is where the quote is. I checked it after she posted it. Short as the story is, I found the quote in a few minutes.

So I would award her the point and the next quote (yes, yes, Reede Kullervo is a male character, but the member of the forum is a woman)

Also she is Croatian, so oen should not expect her to use fancy word like "the epilogue of SoH"

Thanks :-)).
I use epilogue, but I rather use as reference first word in the title :-)).

I was looking for... myself, I suppose. And Xxx. And yyy.
Book?
I?
Xxx?
yyy?
:-)

Got it, finally !
Reede Kullervo wrote:He clenched his hands to his head and grated: "Zzz isn't here!"
"I know," said the Iii quietly, "I was looking for... myself, I suppose. And Xxx. And yyy.
Book? Mirror Dance
I=the Iii? Aral (the Count)
Xxx? Cordelia
yyy=he? Mark (="you", in the quote)
Zzz? Miles

Indeed, all Vorkosigans (well, Cordelia is Vorkosigan born Naismith...)

OK
A certain thick and well-secured portfolio was taken under the personal supervision of XXX YYY.

Book ?
What character is " XXX YYY" ?
any unambiguous designation is OK here but see bonus #2

Bonus #1 : though it is not explictly said in the text just around this quote, it is rather evident from an earlier passage in the book what is in this porfolio. So what is it ?

Bonus #2 :
In another book, we learn that the character XXX YYY was called using several nicknames (variants of given name rather than descriptive nicknames, really)
So to get the bonus you need
-full standard given name
-at least two variants mentioned in the other book, in the context of XXX YYY fighting in favor or disfavor of one variant compared to another

I remind the players that once the main question is answered, if one (or both) bonus(es) is (are) left pending, any other player can immediately answer it for the (two) 1/2 point(s). There is no 5-days delay for the bonus(es), in case the main question is answered within 5 days.

A longer quote
A certain thick and well-secured portfolio was taken under the personal supervision of XXX YYY. Persons short and tall were loaded, unloaded, rearranged, and loaded again.

Book ?
What character is " XXX YYY" ?
any unambiguous designation is OK here but see bonus #2

This quote is already more than 5 days old. A hint or a longer quote does not reinitialize the "no ping-pong" period. So any player can answer the main question now.
