LMB Quote Game

Post by voralfred »

I have seen that there is a Modesitt Quote Game.
Are there enough people interested in exactly the same game, but on the works of Lois McMaster Bujold?

So far, 100% Yes, 0% No, 0% Don't care, 0% Tacos

Well, maybe we should wait for more votes.....

I say let's try it. IF we do we may want to post the similar rules Modesitt Quote Game.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you,

No serious opposition but not a lot of enthusiasm either.

Come on folks, she's a great writer with a lot of great quotes to try!

Just as a free sample
(since the game is not officially started, it won't count as a Sherlock, nor will the winner have to offer his/her own quote to keep it going, nor will she/he be barred from answering the first "official" question if it is decided to go on)

"I believe he'll soar high, dear Captain."

Well, it seems likely to be something said about Miles or to Miles, but I can't place it from memory without a bit more to go off of. And I haven't yet read all the Miles books.

That's said by Aral to Cordelia probably about Miles. Warrior's Apprentice (again)?
The Princess Bride.
Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run-of-the-mill, ho-hum fairy tale.

So far, it is correct, but

this is wrong.

YES

It is indeed in Barrayar.
But aren't you supposed to give, if not the actual page (depends on the edition) at least the chapter?

I believe it is up to the poser to define the specificity of the required correct response.

So since that was a sample, not the first question of an established thread, I may alter the question after the fact.
What chapter? What part of the chapter? (beginning, middle or end? and this is not a trick question, there is no ambiguity of the type: end of beginning vs beginning of the middle)

Well, if it were my turn, I'd offer:

"The replication of his House colors was precise. You could identify the famous crest at a glance. You could probably identify it at a glance from two meters away."

Book, scene and observer?

By memory (I'm referring to my memory, not the book by that name): Civil Campaign, when Enrique presents the Vorkosigan-butterbugs to the large assistance of Miles' dinner that went as bad as possible.
I had to take the book in hand to check that the obsever is Miles rather than, say, Mark (of course, the entire party had a good look at them...)

So should we now really start it? Give precise rules? For instance, one cannot answer the question just after one's own, (contrary to what I just did ) and maybe some more that escaped me in the MQG?

Or are too few of us interested?

Well, I'm game, but we prabablly need more than two people to make it work. Although it could be an easy way for the two of us to roll up the Sherlocks

Still just for fun, one that I love:

"I am not a mushroom, Lieutenant Vorkosigan."
To be kept in the dark and fed on horseshit, right.

Book? Situation? Who speaks the first sentence? (who thinks the second one is obvious)
Spoiler: show
That was one of ths books I corrected the translation of. Believe me, THAT one was not easy. Neither "horseshit" not "bullshit" can convey the right meaning in French. I had to change the mushroom into a pear soaked in brandy. It is a spoiler because I did post somewhere or other which are the books I corrected

There are basically three rules (from the MQG):

Answer the question as asked (i.e. speaker(s), spoken to, book, etc…) Page number are general not asked for, just given for pride points.

If no one guesses after a week or so the quote becomes “frozenâ€
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you,

So if this is the first official question, clong is still allowed to answer it, since before that it was unofficial, but I won't answer the next question (unless it gets "cold")

But does Ghost's previous post really mean that now this is an official Game that gives you Sherlocks?

I think we are now a real game. But we really need several participants if we're going to claim legitimacy.

And I am sorry to say that I need to refrain from answering the current question (I had a guess--which turned out to be wrong--and in trying to confirm it I stumbled upon the correct answer in a way that I would consider cheating if I were to give it).

That sounds like something Simon Illyan would say (but really, any of Miles' superiors could have said it :) ). So my guess is:

Simon Illyan in the Vor Game.
The Princess Bride.
