Who says:
It indicates a deep confusion of thinking to mistake one’s own discomfort for a benefit to another.
and
One part is not the whole of a man, nor the whole measure of a man’s worth.
an odd half-hint: I do not offer a bonus regarding "one part" because I'm not sure what the rules are for words allowed on this forum.

and
One gives you the shirt off his back, ... and the other offers to help you bury bodies. I do believe you have made some new friends
Bonus: who are the new friends?

and
Demure? Who do you think you’re talking to? But I shall be properly polite, as befits a XXX YYY ZZZ.
Bonus: what is XXX YYY ZZZ

and
Oh, aye. At this rank, we are both XXX YYY ZZZs. Think of it like two people’s spouses who can’t abide each other, but feign civility for their mates’ sakes.
and
What a bold courtesan! murmured AAA, sounding impressed.  Even BBB never bargained with a god!

Yes Desdemona! So baton passes to you.

For the bonus, you have ZZZ right, but not XXX or YYY, which at 1/3 of 1/2 of a point, is too small to award. But I'd still give full credit for the full phrase even with the "demon" hint.

OK, new character to find

Who is XXX ?
" (...) Straight-up good guys and bad guys."
"Great," said XXX. "Which are we?"
As a hint I gave just the end of someone's else line ( hence (...), meaning the line is longer). No bonus for finding who spoke first.

"You were involved already. And besides, I didn't (...) . And besides . . ."—xxx paused, shooting yyy a look strangely akin to the one ZZZ had just given yyy—"you underestimate yourself," xxx finished.
(...) means I shortened XXX's line, it would have been too obvious
xxx is the personal pronoun (subject) for XXX
yyy is the personal pronoun (object) for the person talked to
No bonus for either the person talked to nor ZZZ

Hints:
- "he" in the third quote is the character who speaks first in the first quote
- the second and third quotes are in the same book, and "he" does not appear in that book, "he" is only alluded to by XXX, as in the third quote.

Bonus for 1/2 point :
Who is the "expert" who will be "conned" to do something that XXX needs but would rather have someone else do ?

Arde Mayhew

Incidentally, I never understood why there was no mutual recognition with Cordelia when he came to Barrayar for Miles' wedding in _WG_ ?
Or was that a different pilot also called Mayhew in "Shards" ?

Correct!

Lois has confirmed they're the same person. At a guess, I'd claim it wasn't worth going into her past with him just at that point in a novella.

New quote : Who says
“Decorative and functional,”
?

Here, italics are for emphasis in the text.

Bonus:
Both functional and decorative, (...) . . . .
(...) replaces a few words I have removed but the four last points are actually in the text.
Here, italics mean a thought, so for 1/2 point :
Who thinks that ? In what book ? Context ?
Human is as human does....Animals don't weep, Nine

“Decorative and functional,”

and
“Are you a doctor?”
and
“XXX YYY, you moron!” (...) “What were you thinking? (...)”
(...)
“Make it right? Make it worse!”
All (...) mean I removed parts of the text, twice between utterances by the character you have to guess, and once within one such utterance. There are a few "carriage returns" between the first two and the third utterance, but they are very close to each other.

Hints : XXX YYY is actually a doctor, but the person the character you have to guess asked the question is not.

For the quote, we have Lisa Sato in Cryoburn, talking about Raven Durona in the first quote. The second is talking to Doctor (Hans?) Lieber.
For the bonus, we have Miles's impression of Sergeant Overholt in The Vor Game, who was dressed exactly like a bodyguard dressed like a tourist.

You correctly guessed Lisa Sato, and the bonus Sergent Overholt in The Vor Game, so next quote and 1 and 1/2 point.

About the three first quotes only the name of Lisa Sato was enough. So it does not matter that some details are wrong. The first quote is indeed about Dr. Raven Durona, but in the second one Lisa Sato is not talking to a doctor, but to Miles. And the doctor in the third quote has a typical Kibou-daini name, half Japanese and half western (like Lisa Sato but in reverse order), Seiichiro Leiber.

"Two hours", XXX muttered,"We've (...) hours...."
(...) means I have hidden part of what XXX did mutter, but the text really ends by "hours" followed by four points.

Bonus (and hint)
There is one word, used twice in the hidden part, which does not belong to a polite conversation.
There is already, in a restricted subforum, a thread "Bonus for LMBQG". Please answer there, (for only 1/2 point).
