That leaves one more Barrayaran woman for the rest of us.
(...) it leaves one more Barrayaran woman for the rest of us.
So you can answer by guess or memory I'm not asking you, I'm telling you these quotes are in chronological order.

So for each one:

- book
- who is quoted
- and what does "That" or "it" refer to?

BONUS

While we are speaking of repeated expressions:

"death from stupidity" appears twice. Well, three times really but two are just repetition, by the same person, of his/her/it opinion on the same death, so there are only two different ones (as far as I know)

So for each: book, who says it, and who died?

A hint: one of the bonus book is one of the main question book!

I think that's in Civil Campaign and it's about Emperor Gregor's wedding. Since he's marrying a Komarran woman it "leaves more Barrayaran women" for others. I'm not so sure about the speaker. Miles? Ivan? Byerly even?

Administrator's advice, please

- can RK answer the bonus right now, or are bonus rules same as main question, she must wait for it to be cold? (she gave me the correct answer by PM)

- at best, Blackwing gave less than half the answer: I did imply that the main question covers two different books. And he proposes three possible speakers. What to do? Should I comment on his partial answer, as to whether it is correct or not, or just leave for a third party to try and complete it?

The poser of a bonus question can establish the rules for answering the question. So that one's up to you.

I think you should respond with "insufficient" (or "wrong") and leave it open for someone to give a more complete answer.

So:
- RK: go on and answer the bonus

- everything that Blackwing says is correct (i.e., the speaker belongs to the list he gave; however, this list has only a partial overlap with the participants to the discussion, not only there were other participants, but at least one on his list was not present at all; but that was not the question anyway. The speaker himself is indeed on his list)

But there is no element of answer to the other book where one version of the quote appears, so the answer is far from sufficient

This, as posted here, is a bit short for the first one, but you did PM me a longer answer
Reede Kullervo wrote:Bonus, ok, first was Vor game, a doctor (cannot remeber name) says about corpse in drains (?)....
and the mention of the drains is good enough

Second is correct.

So because of the PM, you get the bonus half-point.

A week pasted from Blackwing's answer so i hope that could answer :).

First quote: Komarr, Miles, Tuomonen's wife.
Second: Civil Campagne, again Miles, Laisa.
Byerly was part of that conversation but he remarked something like: one more Barrayar woman for one of us :-).

Correct.
For those who have forgotten, Tuomonen is Serifosa's Impsec senoir officer, who married a Komarran, the daughter of a woman who, as a student, took part to the Komarran revolt....

OK, so you can go on and ask the next question. I'll give you a Sherlock in addition to the bonus you already won.

"You can't make them—whoever your particular them is—do anything, really," said Xxx slowly. "Adulthood isn't an award they'll give you for being a good child. ..."
Book?
Who is Xxx?
Who is "You"?
Who are "them"?
Who is also part of this conversation?

Hope a guess is allowed as a first post in this topic.

Book? - A Civil Campaign.
Who is Xxx? - Ekaterin
Who is "You"? - Kareen Koudelka
Who are "them"? - in this particular conversation, Kou&Drou
Who is also part of this conversation? - Martya Koudelka.

Whose thought is that?
Who does the scene include?

Book: Barrayar
Cordelia's thoughts
The illegal vegetables were: her, Drou and Kou (complete with a sworstick)
There were also legal vegetables, caulifowers and brillberries (but the latter are fruit rather than vegetable)

Edit:  I forgot Sergent Bothari! How could I forget him, when I remembered the swordstick?

It has been two full days already since I answered, but Vesna has not come back.
"Illegal vegetables" is the opening line of Chapter sixteen of Barrayar. Can an administrator check my answer and give me the OK to ask the next quote?

OK, so next quote. This may not be an "exact" quote. This is from a book I read in english (borrowed) but the only copy I have home is the french translation I bought for my wife and children. So I am translating back from the french, with the help of my memory of reading the original. Still, it should be close enough to be recognisable:
Translated back from french, LMB approximatively wrote:"XXX", said YYY. "Since when have you been dead?"
("said" could be "asked" or something like that, the english could have a single sentence without a capitalized word, "Since when" could be "How long"... )

Book?
Who are XXX and YYY?

I would like to offer a bonus for the exact quote, but I can't check it! So no, no bonus this time.

Paladin of Souls, Arhys, Ista :-)).
I believe that's quote:
"Lord Arhys," said Ista. "How long have you been dead?"

As for the "verbatim" quote, again I cannot be sure, but the answer is certainly correct.

That was fast!
I hoped that everyone would go hunting through Mirror Dance for a reference about Miles, but you saw right through my trap!
So go and ask the next one, I'll give you your Sherlock!
