1. I knew the answer from day 1, but I was hoping some sporadic participants (JKCade, sarsaparilla, rogerstenning, a.o.) might return and jump in. So I kept looking the cat out of the tree. (explained here)
2. Intending to post the answer 5 minutes before you would, it was just a childish attempt to tease you. :butter:
I admit I can be a terrible tease, see this thread.

And now for the next quote.
I think the quote fits many situations/events in many books. But Holmesian reasoning will point the way to a single solution.
“Go, go.” XXX's eyes seemed as bright as any of the indicator lights, and YYY realized how much XXX was enjoying this caper. I’m glad one of us is.
XXX ?
YYY ?
What caper?

Luring other players into the field seems to be a fairly difficult proposition these days. I hope they're all lurking, and not having health issues. The game is more interesting to play with more participants.

I think I've narrowed the quote down to a book, but I don't want to look because that would ruin the mental exercise until someone else guesses it. :D
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

It's so quiet around here (again), that I guess a hint is not premature.

Actually I won't give a hint now because my first quote-post already includes a first (Holmesian?) hint, not advertised but hidden in plain view.

So scroll back and read it again.

Well "indicator lights" do not exist in the Chalion or TSK Universes, nor in Renaissance cum magic Italy.
So this is obviously in Vorkosiverse.
Is this what you mean, or is there another clue?

Hmmmm.. I think I just guessed....

No, I was wrong, I was thinking of an amusing incident (I'm going to keep it for a future quote) but your quote was not there. I have no idea now, and I don't see the hint you mean.

Isn't when Miles (XXX) and Roic (YYY) are stealing Mrs. Sato's cryochamber in Cryoburn ?

Do you remember the hit song by "The Bangles"? If not, you can hear and *see* the videoclip here, where it gets especially interesting at 0':40" :
Spoiler: show
Thus my hidden-in-plain-sight hint Image refers to Egypt, in this context not the famous antiquity but the cryocorp NewEgypt.
Caroline Tredez wrote:Isn't when Miles (XXX) and Roic (YYY) are stealing Mrs. Sato's cryochamber in Cryoburn ?
Well, actually Miles planned to switch frozen Lisa Sato for another person (actually dead) in NewEgypt's storage. Though the switch succeeded, the intent failed. It wasn't Lisa.
But let's not quibble and just uphold your answer.

So, Caroline, you're up, stage front and center!

I'll have to re-read Cryoburn, I don't know it as well yet as the rest.

Ok, so now for the next one :
I've gotten way behind on my social duties.
Who's saying it, to whom, and what are the "social duties" being spoken of ?

To put some action here, I am trying by memory without checking:

In _Civil Campaign_ Miles realizes he has not invited anyone to Vorkosigan House for ever, and is starting his invitations for his famous (or infamous) "Dinner Party". But wasn't it in a casual conversation with Duv Galeni that the idea came to him? Starting with a welcome-back party for Mark and Kareen, with all the Koudelkas and Duv himself ?

Alas, no : this is not about Miles's infamous Dinner, and the quote isn't in "A Civil Campaign".

In Memory.
After his recovery from the memory chip removal, Simon confesses his regret to Lady Alys, in hindsight over his entire extremely secluded life in the Empire's service, which kept him from having any social life at all.

Try again ^^.

A little hint is deserved, though : it's one of the six characters mentionned so far who said it.

I'm always impressed that E Pericoloso Sporgersi can come up with a scene, that while possible, I'm reasonably sure is never in canon.

I'm pretty sure it's Miles to Ekaterin in Komarr either during or right before they go out shopping for wedding presents for Gregor and Laisa, and Duv and Delia.

Ok, next quote:
"I quite like wealth."

Speaker?
To whom?

Book? A Civil Campaign
Speaker? Lord Dono Vorrutyer
To whom? To Ivan, Byerly and Dono's main Armsmen, assembled in Dono's bedroom
Context? A Count's wealth is one of the motives driving Lady Donna to have a sex-change makeover.

A different solution:

Book? The Curse of Chalion
Speaker? Cazaril
To whom? to the Fox of Ibra
Context? Nevertheless Cazaril refuses all bribes the Fox throws at him.

Actually, the second one is correct on two of the four items. Can you get the rest?

The first one is completely wrong. :P

I suspect the person spoken to is either Orico's menagerie manager or one of the dy Jironal brothers, but I'm not sure.

So if you know the answer, don't leave us hanging in suspense. Go ahead and tell us.

Wrong on both counts, and it's not one of Cazeril's enemies. It's about halfway through the book, if anyone's looking.

An expansion then
"No I'm not," Cazaril assured him earnestly. "I just dress badly. I quite like wealth."
Obviously book and character are known now, which I think counts for half a sherlock (mostly because neither guess to where in the book it is was correct, so I don't think it should be a full Sherlock, even though he got the speaker and book), with the remaining half Sherlock to the person who can say who Cazaril is talking to, and what's going on in the book during that particular exchange.

Caz to Palli, in Cardegoss ?

I think Palli is underscoring Cazaril's resistance to temptation, which make him a reliable witness in front of the Daughter's Order, should he choose to add his testimony about Dy Jironal's behavior and character, and how the brothers sold him to the Roknari. Palli is saying Cazaril is a man of reputation, and Caz tries to avoid these double-edge compliments (and having to bear witness). Palli then adds that Caz refused several bribes, even when starving, and insist that his voice could avoid the nomination of another General of the Daughter's ordre such as Dondo.

Yes, that's it, Caroline! I believe it's tradition in split Sherlocks for the first answerer to get the next quote, so the next quote would be E. Pericoloso's.
