Who said or thought that? Not justice, please, not justice. We would all be fools to pray for justice.

I have no right to risk. No, that's not quite correct. I have no right to failure. And I don't trust myself anymore. I don't know what's happened to my edge. Lost it in a strange land.
It's Cordelia, talking with Drou just before/as they start planning to go collect the Pretender's head. Book is Barrayar, of course. (Well, they didn't know they were going to collect the Pretender's head, they were just planning a raid to get Miles and Kareen.)Blackwing wrote:I'm going to give you a bit longer quote. Book?Just what I always wanted. More clutter.
Well, I would have sworn it was Aral or Cordelia but I cannot pin down the book... I've looked through most of the Vorkosigan books checking for this conversation or that event or maybe when thus-or-such happened... and not finding the quoted text. I've been trying to figure it out for days and I'm stumped.Reede Kullervo wrote:Book?Any community’s arm of force—military, police, security—needs people in it who can do the necessary evil, and yet not be made evil by it. Who said that?
To whom?
except for the fact that I am just as baffled as you are....risi wrote: Hopefully, the five day wait is almost up and Voralfred will answer it,
Well, unless I have an sudden inspiration so that I can answer as soon as the 5 days wait is passed...risi wrote:... or we'll get an additional clue. Good one, RK!
But, now, one question more"Maybe. Maybe not. Think what a monstrous thing an army of Xxxs would be. Any community’s arm of force - military, police, security - needs people in it who can do the necessary evil, and yet not be made evil by it. To do only the necessary, and no more. To constantly question the assumptions, to stop the slide into atrocity."
