voralfred wrote:As for the "verbatim" quote, again I cannot be sure, but the answer is certainly correct.

That was fast!
I hoped that everyone would go hunting through Mirror Dance for a reference about Miles, but you saw right through my trap!
So go and ask the next one, I'll give you your Sherlock!
I looked in Paladin for quote, isn't translated in Croatian, yet .

I thought about Memory, that scene in which Miles gives job to Ma Kosti's son and Ma Kosti, but they aren't talking about how long Miles was dead :).

"There you go," said Xxx. "If you, with your background and this bankroll, can’t disappear on Yyy, it can’t be done. Good luck."
Book?
Who are Xxx and "you" to whom is Xxx speaking?
Which planet is Yyy?
How much money is "bankroll" worth?

Book? - Brothers In Arms.
Who are Xxx and "you" to whom is Xxx speaking? - Miles to Mark.
Which planet is Yyy? - Good old, peaceful Earth.
How much money is "bankroll" worth? - (unfortunately, from my memory) - 2 million B. pounds?

Sorry for my absence, college... :(

There are Betan dollars and Barrayaran marks. As Vesna reads in Croatian and I can't remember how is translated, I would overlook name of currency but amount isn't correct. All other answers are and I believe that's easy for anybody to find correct answer to last question.
So, if administrator agrees I'd give Vesna a Sherlock :?:.

Award the Sherlock!
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you,

I would guess (haven't found the passage yet)
Mark
Cordelia
Drou
Kareen Koudelka
The information being the exact color of Mark's suit for some public appearance or other (Gregor's engagement? his wedding?) in Civil Campaign so Kareen could color-coordinate to him. Not black, for once?

I've been away from the list for awhile and had to get caught up. But I found a bonus question that was never answered, which just drove me nuts... so here is the answer.
voralfred wrote:Hmmmmmmmmm........
"It's not over, is it?" XXX said quietly to YYY, as they floated out of WWW's way. "Somehow, I thought our troubles would be over if only we could get away from ZZZ1."
YYY shook his head. A jubilant grin still kept crooking up the comer of his mouth. (...). "Our troubles would have been over if ZZZ2 had scored a hit. Or if the vortex mirror had blown up in the middle of the Jump, or if-don't be afraid of troubles, XXX. They're a sign of life. We'll deal with them together-tomorrow."
This part was solved - the book was Falling Free, XXX was Silver, YYY was Leo, and ZZZ was the arrogant and totally obnoxious Brucie-Baby (you see I prefer Leo's version to Silver's polite Mr. Van Atta)!
Now, the bonus:
The name WWW reappears in a different book. But not as the name of a person. And what is called WWW is not named because of the WWW of the quote but some other person by the same name.

So bonus question:
What name is WWW?
Who is the WWW of the quote?
In what book does the name WWW reappear?
What is it, that is called WWW in that book?
Who is the WWW, different from the WWW of the quote, that it is named for?
And why does it stands to reason that it is named for that other WWW?

OK, one more hint: in that book, both WWW have been dead for quite some time.
The WWW of the quote was Dr Minchenko.
The name Minchenko reappears in Diplomatic Immunity as the name of the quaddies grand auditorium, but that is undoubtedly named after Mrs. Minchenko because she was a musician/violinist.

I get so confused with these xxx/yyy type questions and if they don't get answered, they just don't make any sense. :( Well, I get confused about a lot of things, but that's irrelevant.

Correct on all counts!
risi, you got the 1/2 bonus point!!!!

I'll update the Sherlocks presently.

Happy to see you back, and I hope you'll participate to the game some more. ;)

Incidentally, I found the precise quote Vesna posted. It is not in Civil Campaign, but in Mirror Dance, and the precise information was "dark green with dark red trimmings", and the occasion was Winterfair Ball. So not everything in my answer by memory was correct. But since Vesna did not ask what book, and the information was indeed the color.....

Well, I understand that Vesna does not have a very easy internet connection.
My first answer, four days ago, guessing/remembering, was correct exceptfor the book, that Vesna did not ask anyway. Since then I did find the actual quote, in the 33rd and last chapter of Mirror Dance.
Should I go on to the next quote?

Voralfred, of course you should! :D True, I didn't ask for the book (didn't find it important and had asked quite a few questions already), and true, I have internet problems (don't have a connection at home), so I had to bother a friend. A Sherlock for you. ;)

Well, not knowing when you could log in, I was asking agreement from an administrator, since it is bad manners to decide by oneself that one answered correctly. Anyway, here is the new quote:
Every breath you take from this moment on is by my mercy. Every bite of food you eat, by XXX's charity. By charity and mercy--such as you did not give--you shall live.
Book?
Who is speaking?
Who is XXX?
Who is "you"?
Human is as human does....Animals don't weep, Nine

First, Hi all, I'm new to this ...

Next my replies :
Book? -> Mountains of Mourning
Who is speaking? Miles
Who is XXX? Czara Kzurick (Don't remember the spelling, will have to check back home)
Who is "you"? Ma' Kzurick.

Do I get my first Sherlock ? :)

Well, book is right, speaker is right, XXX's last name is almost right (as her married, rather than maiden name), first name approximative, Harra rather than Czara, but OK. A small problem, "you" is not her mother-in-law, Ma Csurik, but her own mother, Ma Mattulich.
But you are new here, and after your answer so little remains that I'll give you your Sherlock!

Now it is your turn to post a new quote!

We're having some issues related to the server move. Hopefully they will be resolved soon. In the meantime, I have fixed the spacing on this page.

Dresses are weapons,

you to the rest of our ordnance team.
What book ?
Who is speaking ?
Who is "my dear" ?
who is the "rest of our ordnance team" ?

Indeed, it is solved (for me at least)

Shadow008, you are supposed to give Reede Kullervo a Sherlock. I'll do it, this time. Just watch the Sherlock Thread to see how it is done, for the next time around (soon, I hope!) Compare with the previous post, where you first appeared on the one point line and where RK had 10 points instead of 11 now.

So my vengence is: you are not allowed to answer this (for 5 days, anyway)
"Why is she crying so loudly?" asked XXX nervously, like YYY still in his original spot.
Because she knows she ************, was the comment ZZZ suppressed on her lips.

Book?
Who is "she"?
Who are XXX and YYY? So that you can answer by guessing or memory, I'll accept the answer even in the wrong order.
Who is ZZZ? (she is not "she": lots of people refer to themselves using the third person, but the perfectly honest man posting this quote would not debase himself by misleading his friends through asking his question in such a twisted way)

Bonus question:
Fill in the blank: what is ZZZ's theory on the reason "she" is crying?
