Correct book and director (good for 1/2 a point).

Then X is Oser, later when he decides to join Miles.
That was in fact my first impulse, but then I thought that Oser totally lacks humour, so I changed for Tung.

Sh ... er ... I mean, "Aw, I guessed wrongly." Though my hypotheses fit the content of the quotes, they don't fit the exact quotes. Oh well, the fortunes of war ...

Now I told you before I plan to reread the entire Vorkosigan Saga in preparation to the new Miles Book. So after that I'll be a formidable competitor.

Don't say I didn't warn you!

Ok, I am lost: do we have a question that still needs to be answered, are we waiting on a half-point Sherlock, what? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Current quote, by ghost, is :
"You're not a commander, you're a bloody holovid director," muttered X.
Book, X, the bloody holovid director?
Not yet answered with the degree of precision ghost asked for, but voralfred already got a half-sherlock for stating it's about Miles in The Warrior's Apprentice. Still lacking "X", but now we know "X" is neither Tung nor Oser, and I'm still barred from answering.

There is also still a bonus pending from my previous quote : the quote was
It would feel just like old times.
The answer (given by Ghost and voralfred) was : a thought by Miles in Diplomatic Immunity about something which Roic would disapprove, and the unanswered bonus was : to which specific event, in a previous Vorkosigan book, does the "old time" refer to ?

All clear, now ?

Quote:
"You're not a commander, you're a bloody holovid director," muttered X.

Book - The Warrior's Apprentice

X - Bothari

the bloody holovid director? - This is said by Bothari to Miles, in exasperation, after Miles has captured Auson and Bel Thorne's ship, and now Miles and Company must keep the crew of said ship so busy with training to be part of the Dendarii Free Mercenary Fleet that they forget their first job is to RETAKE their OWN ship from the Barrayarns. Miles has Elena training people in hand to hand combat, Arde Mayhew is ripping Engineering apart, Bothari is training folks on weapons drills, instead of protecting Miles, who has Bothari's copy of the old Barrayar Imperial Service regs and plans to cut, copy, and paste it into the Dendarii Free Mercenary Fleet regulation manual, along with a benefits brochure.

While waiting for ghost to validate JKCade's answer, I thought I'd share some stats I've been gathering. This game begins to be quite lengthy, which is good (quite a success  ), but increase the risk to repeat an already-asked quote (happened at least four times so far). So I made myself a file with all quotes asked, sorting them by Bujoldian chronology. So far, if I'm not mistaken, it makes 256 quotes asked, distributed so :

1 quote Dreamweaver's Dilemma (before it was considered off-limit)
1 Spirit Ring
8 Falling Free
15 Shards of Honor
16 Barrayar
17 The Warrior's Apprentice
19 The Vor Game
15 Cetaganda
6 Ethan of Athos
19 : 1+ 10 “Mountains of Mourningâ€

I found out why I did not find it. After James's answer I went to check, and of course with all these details James gave I found it easily. Then I took the french version I had originally bought so my wife could enjoy it, and which I also read before buying the "Young Miles" omnibus.... and it was not there! The last mutter by Bothari what just removed from the translation! Imagine! And somehow after reading it first in French, I was not as attentive when rereading it later.

I completely agree that WA is one of the most poorly translated of LMB's books. Check the end, also, the scene with Vorhalas... a pity.

I have a few comments on your list
Caroline Tredez wrote: 1 quote Dreamweaver's Dilemma (before it was considered off-limit)
what you really mean is "Barter", one of short the stories puplished only in the collection "Dreamweaver's Dilemma", not the eponymous novella. But indeed all of these are off limit (only means that _MoM_ which is also in that collection is of course OK)

Not Bothari, correct setting (hint: but another of Mile's crew).

It's Bothari in my copy of Young Miles (pg 169 in the paperback edition, if it helps), and apparently voralfred's. Who is it in yours, Ghost? Maybe it's an editing problem? The only other person in the conversation is Elena, and I could see someone unfamiliar with the story subbing in Elena Bothari for Bothari somehow in translation. Maybe. Except it doesn't sound like an Elena comment, either.
Waiting patiently for the next Lois McMaster Bujold book.

My bad, I started off with a quote from Baz from the same chapter, but changed my mind at the last minute - JKCade is correct . . . and up.

I think I remember, in "Civil Campaign", such a mute exchange about Miles' erratic behaviour, in relation with Eakterin of course, but I don't remember exactly when and why.
I'm pretty sure I have the two protagonists, just a doubt on which is which.

OK, so I try this way
"He" is Ivan, and XXX is Mark.

The first thing Yyy noticed upon entering the Aaa section was the empty socket in the wall for the Bbb.

What/Where is Aaa?

Ah-hah. I think I found it.
