"Tempest in a teapot" is the US version. "Storm in a teacup" is British. According to the Wikipedia article, I'm on semi-stable ground. Then again, maybe it's just an attempt at grandiose misuse of my forum topic *powers*. 8)
In Flemish and Dutch the saying goes: "Een storm in een glas water." Very prosaic. Not grandiose at all.

I wonder what they say in Scotland. Something with Scotch, perhaps?

"First place to number five."
The silent crowd all came alive.
It was the pie of Bobby Gold
The scrawny kid, just nine years old.

Myra Jones had been unseated
After twenty years, she'd been defeated.
Holding tight, her calico purse
She hoped, the decision, he'd reverse.

She boldly asked him, did it twice,
And while she really did it nice,
He'd been chosen as their judge,
And in the end, he did not budge.
