Depending on where you are, just checking your shoes might not be enough.

Once in a hotel in Épernay, France (shopping for Champagne), upon entering my room, I discovered a little black scorpion sitting on the white wall. About 6 cm long it was. I caught it in my plastic soap box and quickly put the lid on and a rubber band around it.

The hotel receptionist explained where it came from. The room's previous occupants had just returned from North Africa and had probably brought the arachnid along in their luggage.

But if there's one, there could be more, right?

I did redo the bed and covered my shoes with toilet paper for the night. The flimsy paper certainly would not keep a scorpion out, but then would not hold its weight and let it drop in, thus disturbing the paper and betraying its intrusion.

My bar of soap got stuffed in a plastic bag ...

I beg for your generosity. Please don’t besmirch me nor slough me off as a festering outcast, for afflicting you by my failing for so long to intersperse any post into this thread. If you are quizzical about my absence and want to elucidate this riddle, I might accede to your wish and go into slipshod and convoluted explanations : I was set askew by a tempestuous series of events that have distracted me, and have tampered with my ability to compose a palatable post, acting as a sealant on my creativity.
Having reflected (meaning 2a) on this nascent inability, I decided to inspect carefully this thread for a comprehensive list of the WOTDs I have missed. I am afraid I might have misused them, and the result may be somewhat kitsch. A limerick might have been more appropriate….

You are on a seesaw as to who to vote for as new president.
Let me assure you, that's totally redundant, unnecessary and irrelevant.

As a matter of fact, the presidential race is the least of my distractions. But as for your final remark, I have been totally aware of this fact for 16 month minus four days : I have been belayed to her ever since I saw her, two days after her birth !

On a different topic, Algot's elephant seems to be in need of your services before his tooth-ache turns him into a rogue elephant, or if not his pain, my habit of committing one matethesis atfer the other.

Set upon a path today.

Zounds!...and several other expressions of astonishment not native to me, though I loved them all through my youth while reading British fiction and watching way too many Saturday night black-and-white movies of the week on the family's first television.]

While avoiding the illicit.
Let us strive to be explicit.
You'll need to be complicit,
As a response from you we elicit.

Here's the simple fact.
You will not be smacked
We're just trying to attract
From you a simple tract.

If you are a no-show
By that, we then will know
That the WotD glow
Has received a terrible blow.

Image

[Nah! Don't take it as if there were really any pressure. This is just a regular, routine, typical, run-of-the-mill WotD post, one in a near-perpetual series. By the way, clicking on any part of the response image will do absolutely NOTHING!]
