Please, don't think I got indifferent to this thread. Contrarywise, I do believe in fidelity in relationships. My ridiculously extensive intermission, my aphasia, if you prefer, is due to fatigue related to unavoidable circumstances.

At the behest of my remorses, I was obliged to plunge heanlong, with ingenuous enthusiasm, and scour my brain for this noisome result.

Self deprecation ....
Ooops !
I did not pay enough attention to the meaning of noisome

I thought it meant "noisy to the point of being some kind of a nuisance" but I did not realise how very negative this word is. I did not mean to deprecate myself that much.....

bematist

noun
/ bēma-tist /
archaic
a specialist in ancient Greece and Egypt in making accurate measurement of distance by the use of consistent paces.
Origin: bematistae (Ancient Greek βηματισταί

-==0==-

Alexander the Great employed bematists to keep track of the distance that he traveled during his campaigns.

Image

[This word is so archaic that it is not listed as a word by Merriam-Webster or Lexico. Bematists do have an entry in Wikipedia from which I have derived this definition. It may be fitting that the word on offer from Merriam-Webster was inscrutable (unfathomable). Naturally, that word already previously used here, that lead me to seek a different word. The process lead through (among others) fathom, chain and odometer, all involved in distance measure and available, but I was on a quest for something less common. Odometer somehow connected to bematist, and here we are. If you have the same fascination with words, please explore the topic of distance measurement, especially by way of the arcane group of "English" measures (rod, chain, furlong, etc.) "Bema" is worth checking, too.]

transitive verb
to expose to danger or risk : imperil

ready to take place : happening soon

-==0==-

Please do not resent
That your success ain't imminent
A lot of time and effort is spent
To become seen as eminent.

Image

[As a mediocre speller, at best, I was just about to use the spelling "immanent" for a recent post. It turns out, it's not just bad spelling, but a valid word meaning "inherent" or "built-in". That lead to checking this forum for either word. The good news is, of course, that imminent had not been used. That turned out to be doubly good, since today's offered word from Merriam-Webster had been used.}

Blame the eccentric illustrator. :roll: Making an animation is significantly more complicated for me than the static ones.

After yesterday's post, I irritated by lovely wife by continuing to fiddle with the animation, giving up after this next version.

The bouncing spark plug isn't completely cured, sadly. For now, I'm done fiddling with it. My wife is almost appeased.
