Fortunately, I will be long gone from this part of the world before that time comes about (and so, won't need it ... with any luck).

Might as well carry this one on...

Fortunately, I won't bother whapping you for the misspelling of 'unfortunatelys'

Yeah, I know I can't spell, so I generally don't ever whap for spelling. But that was a grammar related mistake... and I love grammar (Really. I out grammared my teacher. And a dictionary once too [misuse of an apostrophy]*), so that was more my forte. But really, it's like... a 'fortunately' is one thing, right.. Like a proper noun.

Umm, I'll find an example...

If you were on about the plural of a little newborn baby, you'd use the word 'babies' and change the ending. But, say if you were talking about a gaggle of people called 'Baby', you wouldn't change the name, just add an s. It's the same with fortunately, as it is more of a proper noun... thing. I dunno, hard to describe. It's easier in my head when the voices can help me out...

Unfortunately, you are wrong.

It would be ies because it's the plural of a noun, not a proper one.

Fortunately, fortunately is not a noun, so it's moot.
