Perhaps I should have said "heroic fantasy;" i.e, Elves (Fairies), Heroes, Good vs. Evil. LOTR is (of course) the prime example of this. The Dragon Prince series by Melanie Rawn also comes to my mind; although Elves are missing, magic is not.
