Buddy Reitmayer is a big fan of an "old pro" named McBride who now coaches a rival team. Buddy has kept every clipping detailing McBride's baseball career and is excited to actually play a game with him and his team. However, the "old pro" is driven by bitterness and the need to win at any cost. Buddy's team is on the receiving end of spike slashes, inside pitches, abusive taunts, and other unsportsmanlike behavior.
